Recently I have purchased a few of Build a Rama " carpet style " bases....although they are convenient for coming in an earth colour with some " patches of grass ' to make soldiers stand on them is really a problem, especially if these soldiers do not have a base or the base is not a sustantial one....The sets tend to fall and the slightest move is enough for several to fall and the risk of chipping.....
This even more aggravated if you end up having to place a set on top or next to any " so-called grass patches"...on the sets that have " high grass...forget....they will not stand....The mats that have little road ways are somewhat more friendly to the dio layout.
What have you guys done to avoid that, other than ditching these " good idea mats "...
Cheers

If you’re not going to rearrange the figures, you can trim the grass under them. I’ve done this before. The worst are the older k&c flag bearers. They love toppling in the high grass

I use a little "tacky wax" for top heavy figures but cutting some grass down is necessary in general. For dioramas more dense with figures (e.g. a Napoleonic column or Roman formation/Greek Phalanx) the grass would be trampled down anyway.

Hey Luiz ... Zach and NYSoldiers have it right.

I have many AWI flag bearers and they are (were) a nightmare. I would say 50% of all figures stand little chance (or ZERO chance) of staying upright with even the slightest bump of the table.

SO .... I have trimmed down the high grass AND use a bit of "taxy wax" on the bases ..... and it works wonders. {sm3}

HINT: SAVE the clippings of the grass to help hide the bases of the figures ... it blends in perfectly with the surrounding area and can be reused over and over. You can also put it over the area you clipped to begin with when you move the figures around.
