I’m trying to find out a little bit more about my father’s collection from the 50s. I can’t seem to find any references to the one in the attached photograph. Is it rare?
Hi Elifaz, and welcome to the Forum! The Coronation Chair is Britains 86D. It has a couple of missing pieces - the floor under the Stone of Scone, and the seat. You can see the parts in the attached picture. Her Majesty, portrayed in all the splendour of her coronation robes, is by Timpo. Your example has a far better paint finish than the example in the picture I've attached. The ermine's markings are very carefully detailed, and all the colours are kept "inside the lines". The photo in Joplin's Great Book of Hollow-cast Figures has an Elizabeth like yours, and a different boxing than the one I've added.
As for the Life Guards and Horse Guards, I'd say they are by Charbens, from what I can see of 'em. All these pieces were likely issued in the great wave of souvenirs accompanying the 1953 Coronation (although the Chair was originally made and issued for the 1937 Coronation).
