Goya painted this lady on horseback which I saw at the Prado museum. I was inspired to do this piece and started off with a suitable face from Historex, and modified a Historex horse. I used a failed metal cast torso and created a dummy. Added boots and started to pose the figure.

Progress has been rapid. The skirts were made from rolled out putty which when almost hardened was carefully folded.

The figure was given a basic tone of colour. The horse's mane will be worked on next.

After some consideration, I decided that the legs of the Queen were too short.

I finally got a good seat on this figure by adding putty to the underside moistened with water and pressed down on the saddle. This gives me a good base to build up the skirt.

It seemed a shame not to work further on this piece I further adjusted the legs inwards to grip the horse saddle. The skirt has to be rebuilt.
I rather like the pose.

Finished the skirt folds. Added some horse straps. Finished the saddle fringes and added the decorated forelock.

Coming together very well. Thank you for sharing your continued progress of the miniature.

Grey Heron,

thx for yr comments. Hopefully I’ll be able to complete this piece soon. I delayed working on it because I had to add those twisted fly tails to the saddlery. More was added to the rump. I cleaned up the saddle embroidery as well, gave the horse some shoes and sprayed it grey…
Undercoated the horse with first layer of paint.
