Hello all,
I have been debating about picking up the Russian 45mm Anti-Tank Gun from the Stalingrad range. I was wondering if this was the earlier model (53-K) or if it was the later model (M-42)? It's hard for me to tell from the pictures and let me be honest, I'm not that educated when it comes to Soviet equipment. Thanks for any help on the matter!

I've done some looking around, and it seems that the gun here is the later M-42 gun. This is evident with the longer barrel than the 53-K.

Wikipedia stated: The gun received a longer barrel (L66, 20 calibers more than the previous one, so it was a 45 mm/L66), shells with more powerful cartridges.
These guns were used from 1942 until the end of World War II. In 1943, due to its insufficient anti-armor capabilities against new German tanks such as Tiger, Panther and Panzer IV Ausf H, the M-42 was partially replaced in mass production by more powerful 57 mm ZiS-2 anti-tank gun. The M-42 remained in production however, as it was quite effective against lighter vehicles and could pierce the side armour of Panther and Panzer IV Ausf H. Fragmentation shell and canister shot gave the gun some anti-personnel capability.

Excellent answer.

Does anyone own this set? I would love to see some pics of it.

Hi Lo, here is a pic I took some years back, you'll love this set and will not be disapointed in it, actually surprised it is still available...Sammy

I don't have the Anti-tank gun but do have the PTRD-41 (shown in the lower left of Sammy's dio) and it's a fabulous set. Two others that I love are the Zaitsev set and the "Diversion" set.

Thanks Sammy! And yes, I was surprised to see that it was still available as well. So, this is the longer later model (M-42) of the gun?
