Hopefully Andy can answer this relative to items being retrired.
When a new item is introduced is there a certain amount of them done at one time, then if it sells well do you go back and do more or is there always just one run?
Now when you decide to retire an item that means no more will be made, however does that also mean there are no more in stock?
Or can you determine by sales that an item is not selling well so it is retired early.
I hope these questions are not confusing.
Also curious to know what is the set that you have had the longest that is still in stock?
Would it be some of the Romans?
Thanks, Gary

I understand when an item is retired it does not mean it is instantly out of stock. Some items are around for a considerable time after retirement whilst others disappear much quicker, all depends on the popularity of the item in question.

I was also wondering if there is any sort of system to the retirements. If they release 10 new figures, do they retire 10 old figures, or do they just retire what's not selling, they're out of, etc? I know in looking at the list the one member put together that includes the retirement dates, they don't retire the 1-5, then 6-10, so I guess you never know until they announce it. Or is there some indicator y'all have picked up on?

Hi Guys,

An item retired means no more will be made. Usually the retired items are sold out very quickly after our annoucement in "Dispatches".

Occasionally some items are still available after the retirement.
As they are in very limited quantity, please let me know if there is any item you're interested in.

Hope the information helps.

Happy Collecting!

Interesting question.
I think the main point is that K&C would balance the sales prospects of a re-run against a totally new release. A new release should sell quicker than a re-run. However certain figures such as marching or standing and firing that can be bought in multiples to build up a display are good prospects for a re-run. I remember when the first 12 WWI Germans appeared the marching guy sold out at K&C within a month and had to be re-run. That would be because he was the figure that would be bought in multiples by collectors doing a marching display. Some of the Napoleonic figures will have had a few re-runs.
Got me to thinking what is the oldest item that is still available ? I am guessing BBA01 and BBA02 or possibly WS53. Anybody have good records ?
Regards
Brett

In regards to some of the oldest still available I see NA014 and NA015 from the Napoleonics series released around March 2003. For WWII I see DD055 released September 2004, and a number of the LAH series from May 2003 (if you include them as WWII).
