Am working on a parade detachment of French sailors in summer whites circa 1914. All 16 sailors are cast and eight have painted up well, but I must come up with a suitable officer and suis-officer. However, I have several questions about their uniforms and was wondering if any of you with Hiriart set #1125, 145, or 165 could help me out. Questions:
1. Was the officer’s/suis-officer’s coat white or blue, single breasted or double breasted, tie and soft collar or stiff collar similar to RN and USN dress whites?
2. What was the arrangement and number of buttons on front, back, sleeves, and collar?
On a similar note, did one of the sailors have a fanion (guidion) attached to his rifle? If so, did it have the striped tricolor similar to the modern French flag or Ra diamond white center with alternating red and blue corners? If not tricolor, then what? Did it have a fringe?
Would appreciate images should you have them, but a good description also would be welcome.
Have a good new year!
