Hey guys:

I have almost a complete run of the Russians. I didn't pick up any of the low number WS Winter version sets nor am I inclined to take out a second mortgage to pick them up on the secondary market. That being said, how versatile is this subseries WS 79-86- can they be used for both the Eastern Front and/or Bulge series? I really don't know a lot about the Hummel or the flakPanzer.

What is the story behind that subseries? Were they a kickoff set pre Battle of the Bulge figures?

STANDS ALONE!!

Chris,
Excellent question. The fact that they are not part of the BBG series leads me to think that they will be opposed by a future run of Russians, but forum members who have posed the Russian question to Andy at OTSN and at Louis' symposium have been told Russians are not in the mix in the near future.

That said, they would go perfect into a Russian front display, the Hummel was used quite a bit on the Eastern front, as was the Flakpanzer. Put them up against the Berlin Russians and add the captured T34 into the mix and off you go.............

Thanks George-

as always, you give thoughtful replies. I had a Homer Simpson "D'oh!" moment there- no more than an hour or so after I had posted this, I was looking at Collector 15- right there on page 1 it reads:

"...we're showing off our latest "Winter germans". These troops will work equally well in either an Eastern Front scenario or Western Front diorama- the choice is yours."

I have my hummel and flakpanzer displayed with my previous Winter Germans. The markings on the vehicles though are Totenkopf, who fought only on the Eastern Front I believe. So if you want to be strictly accurate they aren't appropriate for the Bulge.
