Many of the photographs taken by native photographers give us a record of the uniforms worn by the British military in India during this period as seen in the example below:


Dressed in his white tropical uniform this soldier was a member of the 2nd Battalion, The Yorkshire "Alexandra,
The Princess of Wales Own" Regiment. He wears one Long Service & Good Conduct stripe on his lower left sleeve
denoting 2 years of service. These were awarded to qualifying privates and lance corporals.
