RARE Athena Toy Soldiers on eBAy (1 Viewer)

:eek: I cannot believe what these went for. My gosh - I knew they were very rare but had no clue.

Hello to everybody;

I think that this was a record for this older Athena version, (50s -60s).
Congradulations Gideon. I thing that you have more of this older Athena. Will you sell them as well?

I am still awaiting payment for the Athenas. They are fabulous figures - they are absolutely wonderful. I do have more but I am going to enjoy them a bit longer. I just love their quality and uniqueness.

That said, one bidder has "backed out" of a won listing - the 1982 Indiana Jones figure. Said he made a "honest mistake." Looking up his bid history, he happened to win another same figure and was using mine as a back up in case he lost the other. And, as usual, I cannot leave the appropriate feedback.

Thanks eBay. Now I am really nervous about the Athenas, though the bidder is in Greece and has a history of purchasing these figures - so my fingers are crossed. Don't even know why my fingers need to be crossed and me be anxious - thanks eBay.

I do hope that you will get your payment. $85 per figure is a lot of money, though the euro to dollar exchange rate make things easier for someone doing his calculations in euros.

I must have been the underbidder in the first five Athena lots.
To me the price was also a surprise. The highest amount that I have paid for a loose figure was 35 euros, (currently $55). I am collecting these for nearly 20 years.

I think that what made these lots special was that they were "complete"; they were representing all the variations issued for the regiments depicted, (which in turn are not that common). So fingers crossed, I think that you will get your money...

I finally got the guy who wanted to back out on the Indiana figure to pay but still nothing on the Athenas.

The buyer sent me one email about coming to Chicago and if I could send them to his hotel. "Sure, just send the details" I reply, but dead silence.

Not sure what do here. I will probably have to make second chance offers to the underbidder if I don't receive payment tomorrow.

Since eBay put those new policies into place I have had to chase more people for payment than ever before. And these are people with good feedback histories too - like 100% in most cases.

eBay - what a rip off! I have dramatically reduced my selling activity due to stuff like this.
