That is a great article with pictures of the rare stamps and covers. I used to collect covers from British India to 19th-20th century England and back and have some interesting correspondence included between soldiers and the women they left behind. I also collected WW1 postcards with the MPO stamps indicating where in France they were stationed. Also have a post card from the Thomas Mallory's Expedition that was sent from the base camp. Stamps on covers just seem more complete and regal, much like toy soldiers on display, its all about the context.
