I know this sound like a dumb questions but why are models like:
17247 US Long Tom + crew
17246 German 88mm flak gun + crew
17147 waffen SS heavy weapons
hard to find and expensive?
Were very few produced in the first place?other models produced at the same time are normal if not cheeply priced. How can one find out how many copies of a particular model are produced? Are records kept, especially with the fast change of ownership over these last few years. be intrested to hear other collectors feed back.

Hi

Being a Britains collector I will say you have struck on three sets that were very popular and hence were sold out quite fast. I dont know about series runs for them but would suspect it was not a large number since they are very difficult to find and when you do find them there will be stiff competition for then. That being said I would contact Richard Walker of Britains because he has a very deep knowledge base for the line and may have numbers he can offer. I would also check with the owners of

www.Londonbridgetoys.com

and see if they have any of have seen any they carry a lot of retired Britains sets and I have had good luck finding things there that werent available else where plus their prices are always very good.

Hope this is a little helpful

Dear Dave thanks for the comments, actually have these sets in question but always wondered why they were always in demand. Could be as you said they are some of the best early sets produced - love to find out how manywere actually produced. Would this information be made available by W.Britains?

Hi Andrew,

I would go ahead and contact the folks at Britains and see if they have the info I'm sure they field question like this from time to time. Here is the number for the collectors club in the US and the UK.

US: 888-771-5576

UK: 1403-733-988

I would contact Richard Walker because he is very knowledgeable and may know their production number for that period. He is a forum member so you can send him a private message and ask your question. I believe he goes by WBritain here. He has always answered my questions or as he did recently refered me to the correct person.

Hope this helps

That Waffen SS heavy weapons set looks great. It's a set i wish i had.
I do have the 3 piece Waffen SS squad though which is one of my favourites.

These pieces although desirable are not to be over-rated......the quality is fair at best when compared to King&Country.....They have their place and their proper price....Vezzolf
