Welcome to the forum. There are not that many K&C glossy collectors around as compared to matt figure collectors.

The whole set in mint condition with the box, nice find!

Ken

Yes, welcome!

I like those old glossy K&C figures, they show their close kinship with the earlier Chinese figures, like King-White/Reeves (which I like).

Prost!
Brad

That's a great find, in the original presentation box! Very nice, one of my all time favorite sets.

I had received an email from our new member, asking me to help him identify what he had or where he could get more information. I gave him whatever information I had and pointed him to the old brochures on Bill Sager's site. However, Louis, you may be able to more helpful than me.

He told me that his father had purchased the set at an antique fair and that the set was special to him and his family because his grandfather, great grandfather and uncle had served in the Seaforths.

Here's a quote from the book giving all the information I have about this, one of K&C's greatest early sets:

Appearing in 1987-1989 was . . . the “Last Stand of the Seaforths Connoisseur Edition” (29 figures, 2 horses, 2 Medical Chests, 5 Ammunition Boxes, and 2 Rifles in a Special gift box) and “Highland Brigade Vignette Edition” (13 figures, 1 Medical Chest, 2 Ammunition Boxes, and 1 Rifle in a Special gift box).

The large special edition boxes deserve a special mention. These large flat square boxes, which held gift sets of as many as 36 foot figures or 12 mounted figures, had blue or green tops covered with special “King & Country” labels on which 19th Century black and white military prints (mentioned in footnote 1) are reproduced. These exceptionally rare presentation boxes are quite elegant and must have made for impressive Holiday gifts. Among the sets the author has seen in these presentation boxes are . . . the two aforementioned Seaforth sets . . .

The “Last Stand of the Seaforths Connoisseur Edition”, which was available in either Khaki or Red coated Seaforths, consisted of following figures: 4 Standing firing, 4 Standing at the ready, 4 Kneeling firing, 4 Kneeling at the ready, 3 prone dead Highlanders, 2 Standing at the ready wounded corporals, 1 Piper, 1 Mounted Officer, 1 Dismounted Field Officer firing sidearm, 1 Drummer Boy, 1 Lieutenant holding Queen's Color, 1 Lieutenant holding Regimental Standard 72nd Foot, and included the following accessories: 2 Medical cases, 2 Large ammunition crates and lids, 3 Small crates, and 2 Horses - one for the mounted officer and one dead horse for the dismounted field officer.

Welcome to the forum, and thanks for sharing your photos of this amazing set, and thanks Louis for the background information.

Hi PCW1874,

Welcome to the forum and thank you for sharing your amazing set! I really wish K&C would go back and do a set or two of their glossy sets once in a while. I think that these are probably some of their best work.

Do you have any others to share?

All the best

Dave
