At our King and Country Open House in September we had a very special guest speaker a WWII Veteran Harry Berkheimer as a speaker. Harry was 18 years old, straight out of High School, when he was inducted on 18 Sept, 1943, into the US Army. Trained as a crewman on 105mm Artillery Gun, and left for England on 6, Apr 1944. Harry landed on Ohama Beach and was pressed into service with the 1st Infantry Division as a Rifleman. He celebrated his 19th Birthday fighting in the Normandy Boscages (hedgerows). After a month he finally joined up with his unit the 324th Artillery. Harry saw action in Normandy, Brittany, Central Europe, Battle of the Bulge, Rhineland and Hurtgen Forest. Harry crossed the Elbe River in East Germany, where he met up with the Russian Army as the war ended.

We hope you enjoy his talk as much as we did, we found it fascinating. This is part one just focused on the DDay landings. We will be adding more to his story.

We have posted part one of the video on both You Tube and our Face book page. Hope you enjoy

We recently uploaded Part 2 of Harry's talk at our store we have called it Towards the Rhine. We hope you find it as interesting as we did.

Harry has recently finished the first draft of his book, so we are hoping it will go into print early next year.

This was a very special night at Sierra. It is one thing to collect toy soldiers, quite another to hear first hand accounts of war from a real hero. It was an honor to meet Harry.
