I am stuck in Moscow for several days due to the volcano. No end in sight. Visited the Red Army museum yesterday and Red Square today. They are preparing for the 65th anniversary of the end of WWII. Will post pictures if I ever get home which is looking doubtful.

Hang in there Combat. That volcano has got to stop sometime, unless it goes Krakatoa. Perhaps you will have time to hunt down some Russian figures:D. Say "hi" to the czar for me. -- Al

Think about the incredible amazing non sequitur-ness of that statement....

"I am stuck in Moscow for several days due to the volcano."

This IS an amazing world we live in. Russia makes far better toy soldiers now than the nasty little Soviet -eras pot-metal semi-flats I have a few of.

Hang in there Combat, im sure all will go well. Looking forward to those pictures.

Any Russian Connoisseur stuff in your luggage:D? Better try a ship at Murmansk:D:D:. Seriously now, hang in there and I am sure Mr. Putin will do everything to put you out of your misery...;)

Lancer, liked that Krakatoa reference:D. I've read somewhere that once an Iceland volcano erupted for...9 consecutive years.... Now without any flights, maybe our destiny is to slowly get back to the Stone Age:D:eek::D

I'm jealous Doug and can't wait to see the photos. You must be getting some fantastic food. Are you able to walk around by yourself?

Stuck here now until at least Weds. They have a great looking T34 parked down by Red Square. Several shops carry toy soldiers but no bargains to be had. A few figures I own are selling 4 times the price here. No problem getting around. Took the amazing Moscow subway yesterday which is an experience. ;)

The subway stations were designed to double as bomb shelters, which is why the down escalator takes forever.

A good restaurant I recommend is Café Pouchkine. Another one I liked is Boulevard (not sure it's still open though), this one is located in one of the fewest buildings that were spared by Moscow fire in 1812 (when Napoléon was there :))
The Borodino museum is insteresting if you like Napoleonics :)
On Arbat street there are actually a bunch of stores where you can buy toy soldiers.

Flag that flew over the Reichstag on May 1, 1945. The Russians use Moscow time instead of Berlin - so this could mean April 30, 1945:

Some great art work. Cossacks riding down German infantry:

Combat, any Rifles from the Stalingrad snipers, like Vasily Zaytsev?

They had everything under the sun in the Red Army Museum and Great Patriotic War museum, but there was very little written in English. So it was difficult to make out specific items. The Red Army museum did have a Stalingrad display. Posting more pictures as I recover from jet lag. ;)

Captured war trophies - I found this one of the more interesting displays:

Main hall of the Great Patriotic War museum - also know as the commander's hall due to the busts of Russian WWII commander:

Some captured German relics from Stalingrad. I'm sure there is a great story behind the telephone and skull cup, but I wasn't able to read it:

Hahahahahaha!!! Oh you naughty boy Combat, nothings funnier than a witty dig! That Andy is a genius afterall. We band of TREEFROGGERS have been complaining about the painted windows on early K&C pieces when in fact all along K&C was being historically accurate. Shame on us all for questioning the master.:D:D:D:p

Thank-you for the pics. That is an interesting museum that many of us have never heard of and most will never see in person.

You obviously had an arduous experience but this looks like a fascinating museum that you enjoyed.
