Almost all of the Jenkin's that I buy from dealers come in a red box with tissue neatly creased and taped around the box.

They appear to have never been opened before.

If I receive one without the tissue,

does it "most necessarily" mean,

that it has been displayed at a show (handled by a lot of people),

or returned for some other reason (perhaps broken and mended)?

Why else wouldn't the tissue be on it, other than accidental mishandling?

Does this matter to anyone else but me?

I prefer never opened.............

It could be that there was no other tissue available at the time and so the box tissue was handy. It does not mean that the box was ever opened.

I did return a JJD set once after removing the tissue, I realized that they shipped the order incorrectly, but I never removed the figures from the box. I swear.

I think JJ ships them wrapped in the tissue. Some dealers might open them to see if there is any damage - otherwise they should come in the tissue.

Michael,

The only time I have received boxes that were unwrapped were by individuals who were selling them from their personal collection. Only a couple times have I received an unwrapped box from a dealer and in all of those cases, those were the last of that particular set they had on hand.

I have about 50 JJD sets, give or take, and most are from dealers with only about 5 from private sources. About half have had tissue around them. I know 2 sets that came from a particular dealer had been on display and were "the last ones" he had. Both sets had damage which was impossible to miss. I no longer trade with that dealer. Otherwise, tissue or no tissue, has never been a problem. -- lancer

I expect when I purchase from an individual, that they will come untissued, unless he brags they are still tissued.

When I buy from a dealer, the first thing I look for upon delivery is if they have the tissue still on them.

Doug, I can't see any reason why a dealer would unwrap the tissue to inspect for damage. The tissue is almost a guarantee to the customer that it is unadulterated and direct from the distributor. It almost absolves him of any conflict or argument that might arise in case a set arrives damaged. It's unwrapped proof that he has only transferred the set from one place to the other.

Darrell, I'm just going to assume if it's without tissue and the dealer says it's his last one, then it was his display at his shop or a show. I just prefer the tissue.

I went to the San Antonio show and I can tell you this, the figures are handled by men, women and children. I picked up the ones that I was interested in. If not sold, the displays are surely repacked and taken back to the shop. I'm sure they are resold. I don't believe any dealer would try to pass off a damaged set as new.

I have received damaged sets.......we all have.

Dealers are eager to make amends.

Larry Simmons told me, "If you ever receive a damaged set, send it back, I will send you a new one".

I just love that tissue.....it's almost like Christmas presents without a bow.

Wow...................that suxs!!!!:(:(:(

I would drop him too Al.

Too many "good" dealers want your business.

I have bought JJD a set from a dealer where the tissues was wrapped around the box - but, the JJD factory worker forgot to put in the wagon wheels to the set !

Fortunately - the dealer took care of the issue right away and no problems.

I always recommend checking your sets - because problems do occur in China - in the factories and you need to address those ASAP when it happens.

No tissues and safe checks are better than with tissue and ugly surprises !! ;)

Good motto Ron...........John will always take care of a problem if a dealer doesn't.

He really seems concerned with his following...it's his livelihood and his business...but he's just a good guy, plain and simple.

My sets that I have bought always came wrapped in the tissue paper except for a few I got from a non dealer. I did get one set that had the tissue paper wrapped around it, but there was a broken figure inside. Just is arm, but that was a simple fix I did my self.

I love JJ boxes, simple but with a touch of class. I like K&C photo real boxes but JJ's say something else. It's more personal gives the impression of something hand crafted before you even see inside.

Still surprised that he didn't go for a differant colour for the 1812 range.

Amen to that ... more classy, holds the figures better, compact and easier to store too :)

Agreed, and they are quality boxes and foam too. Very sturdy, not flimsy at all, he does not pinch pennies on packing.

Somebody once told me that the dealers pay around 12-14% on shipping from the manufacturers.

For every $100.00 delivered, they pay around $12-14 per.

Pretty high, but most of the stuff does come from China.
