The cost of the kit not cheap mate :(

I've been thinking about it for a while now, too. It seems to be a logical progression, to go from 54mm to 1:1 scale.

UKSubs is right, the cost can add up, but I think you might be better off as a WWII re-enactor, in the long run, because a lot of the original gear can still be found. For me, since I'm interested in Revolutionary War re-enacting, everything has to be made, from the uniform and items of small clothing, to the weapons.

Still, if it's our hobby and we enjoy it, that carries some weight, too. After all, some of these guys are paying a couple hundred bucks a pop for some figures. If you can afford it, and you enjoy it, why not?

Prost!

The other thing with Rev-War reenacting is that to look like you belong in the clothes is to be clean shaven and wear a wig or your hair. There's some debate but it's usually from folks that have beards and won't wear wigs.

"Correct" WW II hair fits in the rest of the week. It helps to look somewhat physically fit as well. I tried WW II back in 2001-2 but I was already twice as old as my father was when WW II was over.

If you have a family, there are "family friendly" groups but in the US that translates as not authentic. I have seen some women with WW II units.

Another factor is finding a group of people you like and respect to reenact with.

I was a Civil War Reenactor for about twenty years. It was fun but the average Civil War Soldier was about 20 years old and skinny. I am neither!
I like talking to the public though and a friend of mine and I do living history (Docents) for the Spanish-American War. It is a fascinating period of history for me, and not a lot of Americans know about the period.

Hi there,
I think WWII living history will fit you best from what I see in your postings about miniatures. It will probably introduce you to people that have similar interests too.
I also know that once you become more knowledgeable about the weapons, uniforms and equipment... their size, shape and colors you will probably become a little more critical in your miniature collecting. This might be good for the short term anyway as collecting your weapons and kit will eat up your extra cash. Take your time here and locate the best gear.

I have been involved with black powder shooting, reenacting and living history for 37 years now, and have really enjoyed it.I have met some wonderful people and had plenty of opportunity to see great collections.
In the past this has included, AWI, ACW, War of 1812, Napoleonics, WWI and WWII. I feel I am really too old to do WWI or WWII any more (Volksturm maybe?). Same can be said for Napoleonic and ACW bt I still can justify AWI and War of 1812 as an older volunteer. I have to admit that I occasionally still appear in my ACW artillery rig too!

I still enjoy occasional live firing of both black powder and earlier cartridge firearms and artillery... I may never be too old for that.

As already advised, take your time to get to know the folks that are in various clubs or groups or you will waste your time and money. As a personal suggestion, you will usually find that the most authentic looking and acting units will be the place you want to be. The extra time and expense will give you a sense of pride in what you are doing and the group is more likely to be invited to some good events at some interesting locations.
Have fun...

All the Best!
