I've started collecting the figures from the Renaissance and started with some of the Pikemen. It's a period I know little about. Does anyone know what the flags stand for - especially the red one

Terry,

I haven't looked at the flags, but last week I found this site for that era flags, and downloaded and printed some for a friend who is painting figures of that period, he was very pleased with what he found there,

so check out this:

The figure is sculpted based on a painting in Osprey's "The Landsknecht", plate C. In the comments on the plates, it reads under "Standard Bearer, 1505" the following at the end: "The standard is the 'Blutfahne' which was carried in the 'forlorn hope' to remind the Landsknechts of the deadly situation in which they found themselves."

It is of course possible that the use of the 'Blutfahne' was discontinued between 1505 and 1525, but I think it's not a stretch to assume it was still around at the battle of Pavia.
