I completed the painting of a Jousting pair of French Knights yesterday. Both are 30mm Flats, bought as castings - from Alexander Wilken in Germany (Zinnfiguren-Wilken.de).
The knight on the left of the top picture - is King Francois 1 of France - and is actually dated on the base at 1515 - which makes him 21 years old here, in the year of his Coronation. He is portrayed as jousting with an un-named knight - who was actually a gift from Alexander - as he came included with my order - which was a very nice surprise. As I thought they looked good together - I made them up this way.
There were no painting guides included in my package - so I looked up several images from Google - and eventually settled on this colourful selection. The paint scheme for Francois was made easier by finding a tiny portrait of him at the Battle of Marignano in that year (1515), in a medieval picture - which I cropped and blew up to a size where I could make out some detail. The other knight was really a compilation of lots of images found on Google. I have another three Knights from this period from this supplier, which I will complete and post later - but as I particularly liked these two - I painted them first. jb
