To all members of the Forum,
Traveling in Europe in May; curious regarding military museums, toy soldier shops and militaria (military antiques) shops located in or around Lucerne, Switzerland and Bruges, Belgium. Thanks in advance for any and all information.

Bruges is an absolutely beautiful city. Should you be accompanied by a lady who likes to sew, I can get you the name of their best lace shop (they are famous for their handmade lace). Eat many frites and waffles. As to militaria, good luck {sm4}! BUT, I would more than highly recomend visiting Brussels' Military Museum. It is probably one of my top 3. If you like planes, they have MANY WHOLE PLANES inside!

Jim,

in Brugge get there on a Sunday when the street market is on. I found a few toy soldiers for sale at a very good price, but I was only on the lookout fro Napoleonics and managed to select some of the better (not broken and with more paint that chips) Starlux figures and fine looking Imperial Guard Grenadier that came up very nicley when stripped of its bad paint finish. Don't rush the walk around the stalls, we took about 3 hours, but you can take longer, but remember to stop for a coffee and chocolate to gain your enegy.

Best of all Brugge is great to walk around, enjoy the atmosphere, the food AND the BEER {sm4}{sm4}{sm4}

Like Sandor suggested I can also thoughly reccomend the Royal Army Museum in Brussels, but that need a half day at least.

Jim,

A little south and westwards of Lucerne is the town of Thun (on lake Thun) and there the Swiss Army has it's tank museum, which is well worth a visit. You will need to ask directions as it's out of the town by a few miles.

Sounds like you will have a great time whatever you visit.
