Request of Dehli Durbar Information (1 Viewer)

Hi Pat and Jr,

Pat I have to admit I do know a fair amount about the Britains Offerings and the Marlborough line but have nearly no first hand knowledge of how the Wm Hocker sets would fit in the display. The fact that you own some of his other offerings and have personally met him makes you the nearest thing we have in this discussion to a subject matter expert so I will differ to you on all things Wm Hocker.

I will say that in looking at the photos on the Wm Hocker web site and from what I know of the activities surrounding the '03 Durbar there are several sets that would be wonderful to have as a sidebar to the parade and they are sets 96 The Regimental Gymnasts, 97 Anglo Indian Polo match and 118 Off Duty set.

There were several displays of the sort depicted by set 96 during the course of the Durbar, I have seen these events listed in a program of events for the Durbar which unfortunately went to another bidder who had slightly deeper pockets than I. I also know there were several state dinners and balls put on by the various Princes and Maharajahs who were there so a sets like that would be fun to have. As well as a Polo match between the Alwars Team and the Imperial Cadets. I also know the cadets got pummeled. So these sets would be fun to add to a larger display I wish I had the space for that:rolleyes:

I have hopes that Britains will bring back the line since they really only covered a very small portion of the Durbar I would love to see them do some of the afore mentioned sets and produce some others have to keep my fingers crossed and keep bugging the guys at the Collectors Club.

Well guys take care I have to go and do some things before the evening is gone.

All the best

Dave

Hi Guys,

There is an ebay seller called sallyreb who has a few interesting sets on right now one is an Elephant that appears to be a one of done by a modeling club she is a member of in South Carolina. She sent me an email because I sent her one telling her she had the wrong driver on a Durbar Elephant in one of her auctions. She also said she was going to be listing some more sets from Marlborough and others so I figured I should mention it to you guys. I've bought a few things from her before so I'd say her prices are real good ;) . So you may want to check her current auctions out.

All the best

I've bought from her also and talked with her direct. She was able to find a single I was looking for to complete a set. Price was good and I had no problems with the 3 times I've delt with her.

That would be Sally Halio. I've sold her a couple of K & C things. Very nice person to deal with.

Hi Chuck and Brad,

Thanks for giving me her full name I didnt get that from the emails. She is a very decent ebay dealer and was happy to get the right figures with the right sets.

Gentle Friends,

I, too, have worked with Sally. I have had several lengthy e-mail discussions with her and she has always been warm and pleasant to me. She seems to have a broad knowledge concerning figures manufactured by many different companies. Frankly, I have been somewhat impressed with her knowledge and perspective.

Warmest personal regards,

Pat

Hi Guys,

Just thought I would see if any of you besides Pat read military history or history in general. I just acquired a copy of Mortimer Menpes book The Durbar from a book seller in India it will be here in the early New Year and I am reading portions of the 2 volumn set Curzon in India. I have been picking a chapter here and there to read and it has been very interesting reading to say the least. So do any of you do any reading to go along with the Durbar sets you have or other eras?

Dave

Hi Guys,

Do any of you have an idea of what the exchange rate for the GBP was in 1900? I have found some interesting cost numbers for the Durbar and have been trying to figure out what they equate too in Modern costs. So what I am looking for is a way to say the Durbar cost = X in 1903 and is equivilant to Y dollars today.

Thanks for the help:confused:

Dave
