Has anybody read this or picked this up, about the First Anglo-Afghan War. I saw this in my local bookstore yesterday and the reviews I read in the Guardian and Telegraph were absolutely smashing.

It appears to have just been published in the United States.

Here are a couple of the reviews, http://www.guardian.co.uk/books/2013/jan/23/dalrymple-return-king-athill-review and http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/...rn-of-a-King-by-William-Dalrymple-review.html

Here's an interview with the author, William Dalrymple. He apparently had access to Afghan and Indian archives never used or before available.

Looks like a good read, Brad. Will go on my list.:smile2: -- Al

Hi,
Just started reading it, up to chapter three. Very impressed so far. It is a thick book, 482 pages. I like the style it has been written in.

A long way to go yet!

Pete

I'm going to pick it up but I just picked up the Flashman version, which I'm looking forward to reading.
