There has been a slight change in the painting on SP14. Originally, Andy designed it to have wallpaper on the inside of the buidling, but that proved too much for the painters. Here is the revised image:

Wow! I never see the inside of this building. That's impressive. What are the overall dimensions of this building?

Thats to bad, the original design was quite impressive. This way it almost looks unfinished.

Not nearly as good as originally portrayed. Very disappointing. Already purchased figures to go with a building which I now have second thoughts about getting. K&C should hold off on advance photos of prototypes unless they're sure they can replicate as shown.

I don't get these two last comments. This shows a building in the middle of a war; the residents have left, it's been fought over in possibly hand to hand combat and nothing's left. I'm not sure what you were expecting. If wallpaper is the only difference, that's ok. I'd like to hear what you were expecting.

If you would have seen the original image that was posted on this site and others, for some time now, you would "get" the last two comments. It was the remains of the wallpaper that made these ruins quite different than others of its type, and added a great touch of reality. I hope you're not trying to say that the buildings residents took the wallpaper with them when they left. ;)

I've seen the images my friend on this site as well as in Toy Soldier my friend and I don't recall seeing the interior, just the outside. So, if this comes down to wallpaper, that's a pretty asinine comment. Is that what it comes down to. If you've got a picture of the way the interior looked before then why don't you post it.

On a similar note, sometimes the way you want to do things change because of financial considerations.

Just uploading an extract (Can't seem to shrink the main picture satisfactorily). Now I'm not one to die in the ditches over my right to pink wallpaper but I do feel a little cheated. Detail of that nature is what makes King & Country special.

I'm sure probably there are huge problems with the weight and volume as it stands, and so perhaps a trimming back on detail is part of the clawback to ensure that SP14 remains commercially viable. I know also that perhaps 75% of people will display it with the outside on show as part of any diorama.

However, there were people like me who might've considered a second one had there been enough distinction in relation to the interior. Oh well.

Andy showed us the prototype without the wall paper at the New York Symposium, and explained that he was informed by the factory, after the first photos had gone out, that reproducing the wall paper would almost double the price of the building. When he opted for the building without wall paper to lower the price, the factory just tore the wall paper out of the buildings already produced. Andy was just trying to keep the price of the building under control. Believe me, when you see it in person, the building is still impressive, even without the wall paper.

All right, I found a picture of the way it was going to look at another site and the wallpaper does look nice. But in all honesty, in a diorama, you're going to be looking at the building from the outside, not the inside. I can see how it's a slight disappointment but hardly worth what I read here earlier.

Whether you like it or not, financial considerations come into play.

I come to this from a different point of view. I've only been collecting for less than a year so everything I see coming out is with wonderment and naivete and feel fortunate that there's some out there like Andy producing these top notch soldiers/collectibles. So when I see the criticism that I read over some adjustments to the original prototype, it tends me to make want to yell, "people, you don't know how lucky you are." I'm not saying you are all jaded but that's a little of what I sense here.

Hey Cool Down.....remember what all these people died for the freedom to express your views. If some of us feel the product was better looking in the original images we have a right to our opinion. It doesn't change our views on the quality of the entire line. I was thinking more along the line of a rubber stamp which could be dipped in paint and then applied to the interior walls to simulate wallpaper. I was not intending to upset anyone with my views.

When did I say that you couldn't express your views. That's what this board is about. I just think that some of you don't appreciate the cost of some of these things and to give a big thumbs down was uncalled for. I also don't think to bring patriotism into this sort of discussion is called for.

Peace, my brothers, peace ;)

This is one of the very rare times that the image we originally received didn't match the finished product.

No wallpaper? No problem!

I'm getting into the discussion late since I've been gone for the weekend, but if you REALLY want the one with the wallpaper, just ask King & Country if they'll sell you the prototype. They are usually quite willing to part with prototypes and "made for ad" one-of-a-kind diorama props if you are willing to pay the price quoted.

Meanwhile for those who want more detail within, Njja had a great idea to enhance it yourself using a rubber stamp or other means. They make wallpaper for doll houses and I found a site that not only has the paper for sale but also has a page about tips and tricks of applying the paper: http://www.dollshousewallpaper.co.uk/

This site is from the UK but I'm sure there are plenty more out there if you aren't from the UK and don't want to import.

Apologies to the “wallpaper” fans out there. It really was my intention to do the Berlin Tenement with wallpaper until harsh commercial realities reared their ugly heads.

Now here’s a little “trade” secret I’m only going to share with you (and a few thousand others)… Are you sitting comfortably?

Originally I looked through dozens of old “”Architectural Digest” – the US interior design monthly – and cut out photos and patterns from articles and ads that looked like genuine “period” wallpaper. I then “laser copied” these patterns and made strips of “wallpaper” which I glued onto the walls and overpainted with battle and smoke damage. Simple as that … no brain surgery required – only a little imagination and a bunch of old magazines. Good luck to all you amateur “paper hangers”.

By the by did any of you know that one of Adolf Schicklegruber’s nicknames was “The Paper Hanger”. It just goes to show.

Best wishes to one and all,

Andy
