Sad to see that another TV legend Russell Johnson is gone. He was great on Gilligan's Island. Turning that coconut into a radio was no easy feat! They don't make TV shows like that anymore. Some people think that is a good thing, but I enjoyed it. Interesting tidbit from Johnson's obit:

joining the Air Force, flying dozens of combat missions in World War II -- including one that turned him into a real-life castaway in the Philippines in 1945. Johnson's B-25 bomber was shot down by heavy flak; he broke both his ankles during the mission, and received the Purple Heart.

This is sad. It leaves only Ginger and Mary Ann as surviving cast members, and Tina Louise won't acknowledge the show anymore as it 'ruined' her career.:rolleyes2: At least Dawn Wells is greatful. RIP, Russell. -- Al

Not to digress, but my favorite Gilligan's Island episode involved the WWII Japanese sailor. Gilligan is being water tortured and the Japanese sailor says, "I give you ancient Japanese water torture". Gilligan says, "Don't you mean Chinese water torture?" Sailor exclaims "They steal from Japan!"
Ginger confronts the Japanese sailor and the sailor says, "you steam grasses (glasses)".
The Japanese sailor rigs some kind of booby trap and I think the professor says, "where did learn to make that?" Sailor replies, "John Wayne movie." Hilarious.

The boat on the show was named the "S.S. Minnow." Most people probably thought that was a reference to the fish, but it was actually a dig at FCC Chairman Newton Minow who said that TV "was a vast wasteland." If he only knew! You can charter the original boat in Vancouver (for a three hour cruise).

I read in today's newspaper, that the show ran for only 3-seasons. No wonder I saw each episode like 20-times.

There was something of an urban myth that men could be characterised by whether they were a fan of Ginger or Mary Anne.

Hardly a competition, though. Mary Anne by a country mile.

"Mary Anne by a country mile."

Were you watching the same show as me? Ginger, Ginger, Ginger!
