As I'm sure many of you know, Robert Caro has spent the last 35 years plus writing a multi volumed biography of Lyndon Baines Johnson that are simply incredible books and essential reading, in my opinion; my favorite is volume 1. The books are a fascinating look at power: acquiring it and using it.

The concern has been that since Caro is 81 he might not finish the fifth and final volume.

Here is a status report indicating that how he is well on his way to finishing the book and that he plans to travel to Vietnam

Robert Caro Nearing the End of his Epic Eyes a Trip to Vietnam.

A great series of books. Lots of material but it remains very readable and interesting. Hopefully he can finish.

His first LBJ book, the Path to Power, was published in 1982. I used to commute from Connecticut to NY, about an hour's train ride, and read the book on the train, going to and from work. A bit heavy to carry around but worth it.

I just finished reading this article and if you’re at all interested in Robert Caro and LBJ, it’s a must. It’s probably taken from his new book Working, which comes out in April and which is available for pre-order.

For those interested, Robert Caro was interviewed on Times Talks tonight, which is available on the Times Talk channel on YouTube.

For those interested in learning more about Caro, his books and his research, I strongly recommend this video, which is both a talk he gave at the Johnson Library in 2003 and an interview at the Library’s reading room.
