Hi, all,
I've just become aware of a maker named Robert Holler, who sold castings as "Robert Holler Miniatures". I found them on eBay, among the auctions of one of my regular toy soldier dealers.
Holler apparently made 54mm kits of subjects from the Revolutionary War. I won an auction for 3 of these, an Anspach-Bayreuth grenadier:
From the packaging, I suspect that he was or is a hobbyist who made to move to producing his own kits for sale. The painting guide is a photocopy of a John Mollo image of the Anspach grenadier from "Uniforms of the American Revolution".
A Google search turned up one other image, of a trio of Hessian Jäger, each in a different pose.
Here is another look at the Anspach-Bayreuth grenadier kit:
From the look of this kit, and the Hessians, I suspect that Holler took existing manufacturers' figures, modified them to make new masters, then sold the castings. This particular casting is nearly identical to these Rose figures:
which represent an Anhalt grenadier from either the Seven Years War or the Revolutionary War. The figure on the left is itself a copy of the original Rose figure, with "Lotus" etched into the underside of the base.
I sent the seller a PM with this same question, and he agreed generally with this description of Holler's figures.
I found no reference for him in Garratt's "World Encyclopedia", which makes me think that he was active in the mid- to late 90's, up through the present.
I thought I'd put the question to the forum and see if anyone else had ever heard of Holler.
Thanks in advance for any additional info, prosit!
Brad
