Dynamic figure poses are essential for realistic combat scenes; especially in the era of edged weapon combat. The photos show some of the best figure poses in close combat in my Ancient collection. The figures are a mix from various manufacturers of 60mm Romans and Barbarians. The Roman stopping a thrown spear is my favorite dynamic pose!

Very dramatic, the second picture ( stopping a spear) particularly so !
Who made that figure ?
Cheers.

The 2nd photo is a 2 figure set by Conte, titled Cause and Effect. A set is available on eBay. Conte did a number of combat scens; Dance of death and A Point well Taken are two more of several examples. My favorite Conte figure set is Behold the Power of Rome. Not a combat scene; but an after action scene. A German with a decapitated roman at his feet and his head held aloft on a spear. I have used this set in several Roman dioramas one being the Teutobergerwald battle.

More figures in close combat poses; both small and large scenes.
