So, now I have to start collecting the K&C Roman series. I have been watching, and I am watching a repeat as I am writing this, the new HBO series "Rome." I am a the biggest "Deadwood" fan in the world and I thought this may be on the same calibur. It seems to be more of a historical soap opera so far. If you like honest history (showing the violence, sex, and just plain nastiness of the Romans) then perhaps you may enjoy this series.
I saw the pre-production show explaining how they used historians to build the sets and the story lines. Currently, as I am watching, Ceasur's neice is kneeling under a bull on the platform above her as they cut the bull's throat so to let the blood drench her from head to toe. You know like a religious - predict the future sort-of-thing that is conducted in most of our modern legislatures today.
The story does have some legionaires battling at the beginning and some battle scenes as two of our heros save Ceasur's Eagle Standard.
It did tempt me to look at the Romans on Bill Sager's web site. Too bad there an't enough money to do all that my little heart desires
