Having recently re-visited the Museum of the Royal Regiment of Wales - situated in Brecon, South Wales (and well worth the visit - by the way), I was intrigued to find that when seeking a spot of refreshment after my visit to the splendid museum - that the nearby "Wheatsheaf" pub in Wheat Street, Brecon - had been renamed.

So - purely in the interests of research - and possibly helping prospective visitors to the area or museum - I went in to investigate..............

The pub is now called "The Rorke's Drift" - and - better yet - they now sell a specially brewed Ale (see below). Tastes good too - and highly recommended with a Ploughman's Lunch!:D A tough job - but someone's got to do it! Johnnybach

I would imagine that a Roarke's Drift Ale would assault your taste buds, and nearly overwhelm them, then your stomach, but just as you're about to boot, you recover and withstand, shaky though you might be.

:D

Prost!

Ha! - Looks as if I'm the only one to sample some (so far) - so can confirm, that as with the repetative assults of Zulu warriors - several repeat draughts of the potion are necessary, in order to keep up the spirits!^&grin

I forgot to mention that the museum in question - holds many relics and exhibits highly relevant to the Rorke's Drift conflict - as one of the predecessor Regiments of todays Royal Welsh - was the 24th Regiment of Foot - which famously fought at the Drift.

And yes Brad, I can confirm that it's a very nice draught bitter ale. Goes very well with a bit of bread, onion and crumbly Caerphilly cheese. Yum! jb:D

My favorites, John--beer, bread and cheese! And sometimes some radishes or carrots, or some smoked meat, like Landjaegers or chorizo, or summer sausage.

I love that mug in your photo, too! The vessel we choose is as important as what we pour into it (drink back out again ;) ).

Prost!

Indeed - it is a nice drink. By the way - this is the sign outside the pub - which may be of interest. It's just a five minute stroll from the museum - so well worth the walk.;)jb

Thanks for this thread. Really like the sign. I guess the ale is only on tap.
If it is bottled also you could drink the contents and put the bottles on eBay.
Some people would pay big bucks for those. I don't collect, and I can't remember
when I last had a beer.

Hi JB, a very tough job I bet! :wink2: ^&grin ^&grin

Love the Pub sign.

Cheers

I actually mentioned to the Landlord - that a bottled ale - with the same label, might prove popular with visitors - as gifts. The response was that this is a newish venture - and they would see how it goes - but IF it proves to be a winner - nothing is off the agenda.

looks like I may heve to return there for some more "research" - at some future date. If I do - - I will, of course - update my findings here:D.jb

The things I have to do Jeff - the dear lady-Wife - thinks I'm a martyr to the Forum.

Next job is to find the best fish & Chip shop there!

War is hell! :D jb
