Rorkes Drift Tribute (1 Viewer)

hhenry, that was pretty cool, I'm sure the Lt. will like this. Mike:)

As Mike said I enjoyed clips of both Zulu and Zulu Dawn. Thanks Hugh for posting them.....The Lt.

Like a lot of guys here I'm a big fan of the Zulu war era and have a small collection of Britains, Little Legion and Troph figures.

Why do you think this era has such widespread appeal not just in Britain but around the world?

Is it because of the fantastic film "Zulu"? Without that film maybe not too many people would have heard of Rorke's Drift or Isandlwana.

Speaking for myself James thats excactly it.My dad took me to Leicester square when i was young to see Zulu on the Big screen.I was totally hooked. The scenes of the Zulu's singing on the Hills, the Volley fire, the desperate hand to hand stuff had me hook line and sinker. It was probably the start of my interest in Military History.I too have a small collection of Trophy,Little Legion and Ani Zulu war figures.

I don't care how often that film is on tv nowadays,i never tire of watching it.:)

The movie Zulu is a great film. I think what we like about it is, the odds are so overly against the 24th's. We tend to like the Alamo type films of defend and fight to the last man. Also the amazing outcome, holding off such a large army, was complete military genius. I did see Zulu Dawn, but it did not hook me like Zulu did. Great film, Mike:)

Mike I would say you got it in one. If they did a remake. Who do you like for Chard and Bromhead? Liam Neeson might make a good Chard. But how do you redo Michael Caines' gifted performance as Bromhead? Maybe he could do a cameo as the Revernd. Better yet Surgeon Major Reynolds.

That is something I never thought about. Michael Caine would be a good choice for the reverend. I'm not sure of his name, but the actor in the Patriot that played Barrington. I'm not sure if they would have to be English. Neeson would be a good choice. Maybe Kiefer Southerland could do the Caine part, he knows how to play that aragant part. He was good as a Marine Captain in A Few Good Men. How about a younger Sean Connery as Chard? Mike:)
