Rorke's Drift (1 Viewer)

Here's a shot of my diorama of Rorke's Drift. The view point is from roughly north. I don't have enough figures to do it justice but that will be cured over time, I hope. The result of not having sufficient number of figures is that I have concentrated what I have leaving a lot of the diorama deserted. The hospital is stuccoed and thatched with coconut fibre. Most of the mealie bags, boxes, rifle crates, the wagon and the water cart are homemade.
I found photographing the scene quite challenging. I'm a not bad wildlife photographer but doing what is essentially a still-life is completely new to me. I'll keep working on that aspect until I get something that I like.

Nice intro with your first photo entering the Land of The Zulus snowyowl and icely staged and featured. Looking forward to your next and I've no doubt you'll find your photo taking will vasty improve in your minds eyes in a very short period of time with your photo taking back grown including the phot tips provided here on the forum......The Lt.

I get the Drift of what is going on here. Simple, but still dramatic. The best thing I like is that you made the accessories yourself. Must have been endless hours of enjoyment as you made these knowing they would compliment your Zulu figures in a setup.:salute::, Robin.

Thanks for all of the positive feedback. Unless something really good comes along I won't be adding any more figures until next spring. I have a couple of things on order but they won't be shipped until after we move south 1 Nov.
I really enjoyed building the various bits. The whole thing is designed so that I can lift the hospital right out and insert the store house. I think that is what I will do. It should be a more complicated build and allows me to reconfigure the layout of the wall and add things like the redoubt.

Sounds interesting....should keep you busy for awhile.....dont forget to update on any progress...love that thacthed roof....use of the coconut fibre is a great idea....cheers TomB

I'm on pause at the moment. I don't have any ideas as to what I might add next. Perhaps I"ll leave this for a while and move on to displaying more of my other Britains.

I received three more figures today and immediately integrated them into my diorama. I won't be adding anymore until spring because anything that I order now may not get here in time before we leave for the winter. These shots are intended to show the overall scene plus some detail. I still have to decide on what to do for a background.



This area includes the two glossy zulus that I ordered by mistake.



When I look att his scene, I always ask myself why Lt Bromhead is just standing around. I know he is an officer but still........!
