By chance I met a fellow local area collector who was selling some excess items to include all of the sets of K&C's Rough Riders with copyright date of 2001. I purchased all his sets including the diorama base representing San Juan Hill in Cuba during the brief War between Spain & the USA in 1898. I set up a diorama on top of a bookcase with a display area of 29 inches by 12 inches. Note that officer firing pistol with Spanish troops is a German Army Advisor.

The First Volunteer Cavalry, nick named the "Rough Riders", was led by Theodore Roosevelt who just a few years later became President of the USA. This regiment attacked Jan Juan Hill on 1 July 1898. Please see 5 photos below. I shall post another 3 photos in my next posting as soon as possible.

Great looking dio Gary. Really well done.

Reply backs to "ROUGH RIDER" / John and "Marco55" / Mark:

Thanks for your comments!! At first I was thinking of just reselling these sets if I got a real good price on them, but then I saw where I could put them after doing some rearranging of displays. I had a second set RR20 of the Spanish soldier attacking with his bayonet which I have up for sale on eBay now as it did not seem that I could use both with good visual effect. So now there are 6 foot figures on the Spanish side and 12 figures on the U.S. Army side. I made a deal with my new local area toy soldier friend on 7/7/2014 for all the K&C "RR" sets he had at a very good price I think. I am happy with the new diorama.

Thanks again for your comments!!

Very nice Gary. I have all of the RR sets but never acquired the trench. Your dio and the work you did is excellent.

Thanks for your very nice comments. Speaking of the trench on hill top diorama base by K&C for their 2001 "RR" series, do you have any idea how much the original cost was of this diorama base item? Also, I see that I ended up not showing a detailed photo of the Spanish soldier with his Maxim Machine Gun. I have posted a photo below to correct this issue.

I think it is just great. This is what makes this forum so wonderful to see old sets set up by fellow collectors. This is just a great find for You and a great dio too. Thank You for posting. Good luck on more rare finds. "Mr Colt 45" {bravo}}{bravo}}{bravo}}

Thank you both for your comments!! This purchase was very unexpected and a real case of Serendipity. We had a new handyman (he works at it part-time) over to fix something and he noted to his wife about all my displays and dioramas he saw. His wife in turn happened to run into a nearby neighbor who she knew was a toy soldier collector and mentioned to him about what her husband saw on his recent handyman job. The toy soldier collector who wanted to sell items asked our handyman to give me his name and telephone# for me to contact him. I called and saw his displays at his home and some of the things he was selling including the old 2001 K&C Rough Riders sets. I was not in the market to buy anything at the time. When I saw his batch of K&C's old Rough Riders sets I got to thinking of just buying these perhaps with trying to resell these sets on eBay if I got a real good price on them. But then I did some rearranging and found that I could display them after all! As this new toy soldier friend in my area will have a table at the Old Toy Soldier Show near Chicago this September he noted that he would not have room on the table at the show for all of these sets. Allowing for all the sets I purchased it was at a very reasonable price.

Sometimes toy soldiers are just better when they are acquired this way. Great story and congrats on the purchase!

Re: Roughr Riders, 1 July 1898

just a question. What is the reason of the skin tone of the Spanish soldiers?

Re: Roughr Riders, 1 July 1898

"Emilio":

As for your questions on the skin tone of the Spanish soldier figures and the German Officer advisor you would have to ask Andy Neilson about that.
