Hi everyone,
just received today a Britains set which I found on ebay last week.
Never saw that set before and did not remember it from the old catalogs.
It's set no. 8898 Royal Navy Field Gun Landing Party.
A most charming set, which does fit great in my "British Empire Collection.
Very pleased with it, to say the least, and it reminded me that it is well worth to keep older sets in mind when looking for an option to spend some money ^&grin :wink2:

Very nice indeed. What year was it issued? What war does it represent?

Randy,

an info sheet that came with the set just mentions the late Victorian period, not a particular war.
It is mentioned that at that time the British Army saw action all over the Empire and beyond and the Sailors were trained in land warfare and often accompanied the Army battalions ashore.

The year of release, as of the box, seems to be 1997.

Thanks Konrad

I checked the WB catalogs 1996 through 1999 and it does not appear. I wonder if this was a special or limited edition set? it's a gem no matter what.

Well, I'm actually glad you didn't find it either, Randy :)
I went through the catalogs a number of times, but couldn't find it.
The box says "Special Collectors Edition", but I do believe that this particular phrase appeared on many other sets, that were released in the thousands.
However, it's a really nice set and I am very glad to have it.
Maybe Dave Namiot can put in a little more info about this set?
