I have commissioned David Marshall from TM Terrain to build a modular Russian/Ukrainian farm and road section. This has been done with photography in mind.

It consists of 1 24" x 24" tile with the main farm house, out buildings and garden, 2 24" x 24" grass tiles and 3 24" x 24" road/grass tiles for a total of six tiles (72" x 48")

Here is the general idea. The red line represents the 72" x 24" backdrop pictures.

Now the beauty of modular design is that it can be reconfigured to create different views. Here is another configuration that should provide great perspectives. Keep in mind that these configurations can all be reversed to keep things interesting as well.

Multiple configuration plus multiple backdrops plus multiple lighting options equals versatile

Here are some shots of the construction. This needs to be ready for the London show March 28.

This is going to be a monster of a dio Frank!!! already looking forward to seeing how you incorporate you vehciles/troops in this diorama.

I'm always amazed how David seems to be able to pull everything together on his timeline, one day you just have some blank buildings/terrain and then before you know it, everything is completed and looking superb!! I'm sure this dio will be the hit of the show next week in London and look forward to seeing some photos of it at the show itself...Sammy

Dave is amazing. He makes it look easy but we know better.

Frank,
Thanks for sharing this project with us, I love the way you think; go big or go home, 6 feet by 4 feet is awesome.

Good for you.

And speaking from experience, you couldn't have picked a better person to do this for you, David has created several masterpieces for me in small scale (20mm), he built me a Spanish Village for my Napoleonics that is spectacular, he also built a jungle compound for my 20mm WWII Australian/Japanese collection and also has scratch built numerous buildings for me for my WWII ETO collection. He also built a show stopper 54mm display for Napoleonics that I use at the shows.

He consults with the client every step of the way and is very flexible with changes/adjustments when needed.

Keep us posted on this, I know you'll be thrilled with the end result.............

I agree with George, Frank, Dave does fantastic work.^&cool^&cool I look forward to see your project come to fruition.:wink2:

I saw this today at the show and will be posting some photos later - just brilliant! ^&cool

Check out these pictures with natural lighting. The last shot really feels like you're standing there looking over the fence at a real home.

Absolutely exceptional!^&cool^&cool I was so impressed by the RAF blast pen David had on display in the photos from the London Show, that I sent him a PM enquiring about ordering one.:wink2:

Once again David has shown he is one of the best diorama creators out there with this beautiful Russian farm, I know Frank will put the dio for some outstanding photograpy in weeks to come, congrats again on the dio and look forward to seeing it in the magazine...Sammy

Wow, just amazing. It would be great if he did a How-To on YouTube or just on this site.

With the additional tiles, this is a great concept. And the execution seems marvelous. I am really looking forward to this. I had always considered Frank a photographer for vast, wide shots. I am very curious what he will do with this.

Elements of Kradschützen-Abteilung 4 (24. Panzer-Division) pass an occupied farm house, southern Russia, summer 1942.

Thanks to David Marshall at TM Terrain for a wonderful scenic.

I spent some time this weekend figuring out how to shoot this new scenic and what is required in post production to achieve the look I'm after. I'm pleased with the result. I think this piece will offer a lot of possibilities.
