For those that may not have caught it yet, the 1943 classic Bogart film "Sahara" will be on TCM today (Saturday) at 5pm (central).

Enjoy!

This is also one of my favorite King & Country Pieces in my Collection !

I have one of these also..It was my first ever King and Country purchase. True 1/30 scale. Would love an update with swivel main gun, but would accept a Monty version..Figarti is just 2 much cash and I am still a big fan of the K/C paint style.......Michael

Only problem with that piece, if it were to represent "Sahara", is that it's missing the name "Lulubelle" on the rear sides, below the stowage compartments, and Lulubelle didn't have the stripe painted around the turret, she only had the star.

Anyone else notice in the movie, the German aircraft that strafed the tank was a P-51 model, with a Balkenkreuz only on the upper left wing, not on both, and with a white swastika in an black circle, on the tail? And the shots of the pilot firing his machine guns looks like the mockup of the fuselage was based on the Seversky P-35.

Doesn't detract from the movie, though.

I guess I am going to have to paint over my stripe...Thanks alot..:(Michael

Between the John Wayne flicks, TCM also showed a short piece put out by the US gov't. It looked like it was made early '42 given the equipment they showed. It was about 15 minutes long and was titled "blabbermouth": basically don't be spreading rumors. Pretty good little piece. Don't know if anyone else saw it.

I still LOVE my Tank ! :D

I am sure - when this was produced - Andy was trying to avoid copyright problems from the movie makers. Plus - it looks great and doesnt need to be 100% for my enjoyment !

Further trivia - this is an early P51 or even an A36, the ALLISON-engined version of the Mustang, versus the more famous and much more successful MERLIN-engined Mustangs.

More Trivia - notice that in the first battle scene ("scram, Yanks!") and in the relief colum at the end are cast-hull M3A1 "Lee" tanks, as well as Stuarts. The "German" halftrack is an M2 halftrack car.

The movie was filmed out in the desert training center in California's Mojave Desert.
