As many of you know I have been selling some of my collection. I work in the construction industry and this is going to be a long winter. My collection that I sold allowed me to pay LOTS of bills in advance to give me some breathing room until spring. All should know if this happens to you our collections are worth more than you think esp in times like this. My only regrets are collecting the Aeroart figures I spent alot of money on these and no one wants them. There is no seconary market for these even at 50 percent a 500.00 figure is 250.00 still to expensive for most. I am left with shelves full of overpiced worthless metal! If you collect them make sure you LOVE em cuz you cant get rid of them! The Conte, K@C, Jenkins etc most you get your money back on some you lose a little and some you make money on and they sell rather easy. I just thought I would put it out there that our collections hold value and you many need it someday. I hope to collect again at some point but a little more frugal when the time comes. Happy Collecting to all!

I've been there Joel so your not alone. That's why I being very selective from now on also.

This economic mess has hit me hard also. Income going down, expenses going up. A BAD combination. I have literally only made 1 TS purchase in the last 3 months and things do not look good for the next several months, either. Very frugal times right now. -- lancer

Great advice Joel...

I'm sorry about your unfortunate circumstances and I appreciate the heed on collecting some pieces...I'm glad you were able to re-coup some on your lesser priced and more affordable collectables...sincerely...Michael:(

Sorry to hear about your situation Joel.

There should be a concern with people asking for new this and that and manufacturers making them, buyers then buying what they can't afford or product sitting on shelves and all of this sitting on top of a 10 per cent unemployment rate.

:eek:Yo Troopers, would like to hear from the guys that collect the Russian Art figures, as to, is this a concern for them paying such high prices for the models considering what "APACHEJOL" has experienced trying to sell them off.
Reading past threads on these really superb models, noted people saying they were buying them for their retirement fund. Has this cast a doubt in their mind now as to, Hey am I doing the right thing here:confused:.

Hello,
As I can only speak for myself I personally bought 3 of the Aeroart Figures from this gentleman. I do not buy any Figures for resale or some kind of retirement fund . I buy figures that I like and can enjoy for years to come with no interest in resale. That will be a job for my children when I kick the bucket. Hope this helps All the best Gebhard

I would not recommend anyone buying toy soldiers/collectables etc. as a investment. Also, the more expensive it is new the harder it will be to sell.

Using APACHEJOL example, even at half of what he paid new, $250 is still a fair amount of money to spend on a something that is a luxury. Now, using a current run of the mill K&C, Britains etc. figure, you buy it new for say $30. You can get half of its value ($15) with no problem. Alot more collectors could afford a $15-20 dollar figure. Plus, at the rather low price, it opened to many more collectors regardless of their financial level.

JMO, but anyone who is buying TS with an eye towards a big payoff at retirement time is going to be rudely surprised. I bought several Russian figures many years back because they caught my eye as beautiful examples of the TS world. Never intended to resell them and still don't. Buy them for the interest you have in them, not as an investment. You will be a much happier collector. -- lancer

I guess it depends on what you are buying. There was a very interesting article in the WB Standard recently about investment buying.
