Same figure used differently...... With the ALH dio we have done the use of the figures was a possible issue eg; multiples...one small way around it was to replace the flag on a flag bearer figure with a bayonet.
Wayne.

Some really nice horsemen here. Within the sand, they look extremely realistic. Nice job and idea with the flag. Great scene!

Wayne,
One of the things the Lighthorse were famous for is that they were actually mounted infantry and not strictly speaking cavalry. That is why their charge at Beersheba is one if the more unusual charges as they were charging with bayonets. Only later in the war were they issued with sabres.

Only yesterday we were discussing the fact the Turkish artillery was zeroed in for a longer range at Beersheba as they expected the Lighthorse would dismount to fight on foot. As a result the long distance charge was a surprise. As has probably been mentioned before the charge was a last effort to capture the town as the attack had been going on for most of the day already. They desperately needed the water.

Whilst I have no experience with either I am guessing a mounted soldier would prefer a sword to a bayonet which is not really designed for fighting on a horse.

For those who are not familiar with Beersheba it is interesting to read the background as there was a lot more to it than just the charge which gets all the mentions. The Turks were greatly outnumbered and did well to hold out as long as they did. The charge was however a good idea that was crucial to saving the day and securing the water.

Nice one, I did not know the importance of the bayonet in this battle but, now I know ! :salute::

Wayne, What about putting a sword in his hand ?
We all have a 'moment' every now and again (and before Jack says I have more than a few I will :rolleyes2:) I started putting a rifle in his hand and forgot about the one slung on his back. :redface2:

I never caught on to the ALH with the bayonets in hand until Brett mentioned it. When I went back to look at the pic the other mounted ALH are holding bayonets. To be honest it being a non WWII scene I glanced over it and
thought "Sword" which I now know would be inaccurate. Never really followed the ALH but Put a Tiger tank or Sherman in front of me and its a different story ! :salute::
By the way I am not a blonde !!!

Your forgiven mate, now to really repent get rid of all that multi-coloured WW2 German stuff and go ''AUSTRALIAN LIGHT HORSE''...you'll feel better in morning for having done so. {sm3}{sm4}
