This has been discussed somewhat elsewhere but the new range that Matt has been talking about is Samurais.

Here is a photo. The one pictured is a SAM002 Noble Samurai Daimyo with Horned Helmet. I don't know much else so perhaps he can fill in the details.

I don't collect Samurais but I know it has a great following so I'm sure this will be a big success and hearty congratulations.

Well that sure is interesting and not really that unexpected. That is a beautiful figure. Were did you see this discussed elsewhere BTW? I don't collect that period either but...., if this is true and if they are all this nice (and I have no reason to expect otherwise) I may be doing my own Ronin Dio.;):D

Yes, yes, very true indeed, "The Age of Samurai" is one of our new ranges. More information to follow later this week with the pre-order for the first three figures to begin very soon with a ship date of mid-March. We're starting the range off modestly to get it out there, but will be adding to it heavily over the course of 2009....

Regards,

Matt

Simply stunning figure, these could easily become must haves. I assume we will be seening more (and hopefully more pictures) about these in a First Legion Newsletter very soon.;):D

I would say that's a very safe assumption. :D

Well these are not in my collecting sphere but look stunning figures, many congrats to FL for producing what i'm sure will be very popular indeed.

Have to wait a bit longer for FL WW2 then;)

Excellent, I will eagerly await mine; may we also presume that this is the new range with hooves?;):D

Another pretty safe assumption. Though one that doesn't preclude other ranges we may do from having hooves as well!

Thanks Rob, much appreciated. As for WWII, if we were to do a range, it sounds like they'd have to be pretty amazing figures to generate any interest at all!!! So thank goodness the rumors aren't true and we're not doing WWII (or that if we did, they'd be amazing enough to turn a few heads!). Only time will tell I guess...:D

:D:D Great answer!.I look forward to what may or may not happen in the future!;)

Is there a particular period of Japanese medieval warriors you are making?

I believe there were multiple Daimyo wars until eventually Oba Nobunuga claimed the first shogunite.

It would be great to see a few musketeers and ofcourse a Miyamoto Musashi figure.

Infact - that could make a great mini series - famous Musashi duels!

Actually it was Tokugawa Ieyasu who finally claimed the shogunate during the Sengoku warring states period (roughly 1470-1615), which is the most common period samurai are depicted in and I'm sure this will hold true for First Legion's line as well. But you're almost correct in that Tokugawa could not have done it were it not for Oda Nobunaga laying the groundwork. Nobunaga was the first "unifier" of Japan who began to unite the splintered Clans during the civil war. But he was killed before he could ever try to claim Shogun. His work was picked up by his favourite general Hideyoshi Toyotomi, the second unifier, and completed by Tokugawa, the third. However similar to the breaking of the triumvirate in Rome, the power struggle between the Toyotomi and Tokugawa clans over who would truly inherit Nobunaga's legacy led to the largest battles in samurai history. As for Mushashi, he was still just a teenager when all this was going on but he is rumored to have fought in the final main battle of Sekigahara (1600) as a no-name grunt on the Toyotomi (losing) side - he gained his true reputation as a mater duelist in the peace that followed. Personally I prefer armored samurai figures so figures in kimonos from the post-war Musashi era don't interest me that much. But I admit dueling figures (armored or unarmored) that could work together to form a scene would look very cool. Why more manufacturers don't make swordsmen designed to fight each other escapes me.

We'll discuss this a bit more when we officially launch the range. As we're launching so few figures to start with, we don't want to give too much away about our future plans. Suffice it to say, our focus will be on the Golden Age of Samurai..................

Anjin-san and Lord Yoshi Toranaga?;):D I must confess I did really enjoy Toshiro Mifune. Chamberlain was OK but better as a Musketeer.
