J have been reading some excellent comments on the " State of the Hobby " in which several scales were mentioned...1/28...1/30....1/32...1/35......I know 1/32 as 54mm...could somebody please add the height of the other scales.....my limited knowledge of TS was that size was a standard 1/32 but figure's appear to be growing in height.....what is the height of these new scales in mm ?...thank you...TomB

1/30 is 60mm.
Mark
Thank you....I guess 1/28 would be approx 62mm...1/35 ...I think may be 48 mm or maybe 50mm...I am mainly interested in the closest above and below 1/32 scale....and what the difference is...I have seen some excellent 1/35 figures and thought if they are smaller than the 1/32 ...how do they do them so well...cheers TomB

Tom - they say a picture saves a thousand words. See below the tallest and shortest man in a (German) Regiment during WW1.

Remember, people (and soldiers) come in all sizes:D So don't get too hung up on scale with figures.

Your dead right about people coming in all shapes and size's.....people are a lot bigger now than 10 yrs ago.........the scales dont worry me,,,,I just like to know that a 1/32 is 54mm and so on....I now know how tall the three most talked about scale's are...I'm happy.........thanks for the pic......and a thing about size...a small soldier has to carry the same load as a bigger soldier...has a shorter pace and in general has to be just as physical and mentally strong...if not stronger.... than a larger soldier.....that's my bit for the little guy...cheers TomB

"How do they do them so well?" The master figures are often sculpted much larger than the finished castings. The moulds are produced by mechanically reducing the master figure to the desired scale. Bill Farmer sculpts for a number of companies and has his work reproduced in different scales. His website is a very interesting look 'behind the scenes': http://www.figuresculptor.co.uk/index.htm
There are also lots of wargames companies whose sculptors work in actual finished size- usually 30mm. Too small for my old eyes! http://www.perry-miniatures.com/pages.php?page=plastics-workbench (Check out their other workbenches as well.)
Thank you for that....I will look up the info....it will be very interesting.....thanks...TomB

jb... Loved the piano background....where do you get all this stuff from ?......you always seem to have something for every occasion....cheers TomB

It's the power of the Internet Tom. My daughter showed me how it worked - I had an old computer given to me - and I was off! When that one conked out - I bought a lap-top - and was off again. I'm still learning - but wish I had learned a lot earlier. Lottsa music on You-tube. Glad you liked Randy Newman - who got a lot of stick for that song - but I just love his sense of humour - which is what that song really is all about. :D jb
