These new soldiers look very interesting. I would like to see a comparison on scale between First Legion and K&C. The picture on the First Legion website is not that helpful since the K&C soldier is crouching.

Would it be possible for a collector who has both to post some pictures of a side by side comparison? I am thinking maybe somebody in the DC area might just own a few soldiers form both companies. Of course all pictures welcome and appreciated.

Thanks,

I agree with you, the image on our website isn't that helpful because the K&C figure is crouching, but it's the only one I have with me. I will say this - our Bavarians are our smallest figures that we've had done. The Artillery Set fits in well with K&C though it's a bit slighter. Most of our future releases starting with the French Line infantry are all done by the same sculptor and are a bit taller than the Bavarians and a bit heftier than the artillery set. On the whole, I would say K&C are a bit taller, but not by so much that they won't work in the same display.

I'll pick up a few additioal K&C figures when I have a chance and put some comparison photos with our new french line infantry up on our website for sizing purposes.

Dear First Legion,

Thank you for your kind reply :). It is very nice of you to go to the trouble of getting some more K&C soldiers to do a comparision. Thanks again and I look forward to your new photos.

I agree that is a very thoughtful gesture and I look forward to your pictures as well. In the meantime, I decided to get some for my own comparison so I got a sample figure from the K&C Guard, the WB Guard and the First Legion Barbarians. Below is a photo of the three compared:

The First Legion figure is, of course, the one with the Blue jacket.

To me, it is clear the K&C figure is a bit larger but not by more than a few mm. The WB figure is actually a tad smaller than the First Legion figure but again only by a small bit. If I knew nothing more, I would say they would fit well enough for me and certainly if you think the Britains fit, these will as well. Then you have to remember a previous post by Matt noting that:

"...Our bavarians are a little shorter than some of our other figures by a few mm I would say. The Artillery set is a bit taller and thinner than most of our other figures. I would say the majority of our sculpts have settled in to somewhere between the two in height and with a bit more girth than the artillerists..." http://www.treefrogtreasures.com/forum/showthread.php?t=8341&page=2

If that is true, I would think the the First Legion figures will fit fine with the K&Cs.

I can tell you judging from this one, they are extremely well done and I look forward to getting many more.

Spitfrnd,

Thanks for the pictures. To me it looks like the First Legion soldiers would work equally well with WM or K&C. Since the new infantry is going to be a little thicker and taller that will make the new releases work even better. Thank you for taking the time to post the pictures and your opinion of the solders. They look very good to me and I am considering getting a couple to check them out.

Thanks,

I've added a few more images for comparison to the scales page of our website. My partner had a K&C Guard grenadier and a line infantry figure. He didn't, however, have any of our new line infantry with him, so he could only use our bavarians, arty, and staff figs for the comparisons. From these images, you'll see both our tallest (staff and arty) and shortest (bavarians) figure sculpts that we've done. I think that they all fit in pretty well with K&C from a size perspective. To me, the major differences between our figures and theirs isn't the size............... ;)

Rounded bases on the staff figures? ;)

These all look great by the way, and agree the various manufacturers seem to work pretty good together.

Have you guys seen the sculpts of the Russians on First Legion's website in the workbench area? They have some great figures in the works.

Matt,

Thank you for posting the pictures. To my eye it looks to me like your soldiers will work fine with K&C. Thank you for taking the time to post the picutres. I think I am going to have to order one your guys to check them out.

Thanks,

I like the artillery figures! What refrence guides did you guys use for them?

Thanks. I'm not sure exactly which guides/materials were used, as the research is done by my partner (he manages the sculpts) and most of his resources are non-english language (typically, French, Russian, or German sources). He has an unbelievable wealth of material to draw from though and he consults with various experts when there is conflicting material.

Those Bavarian flags are really nicely done. Having painted one once, in 54mm, I can say that it takes a steady hand, a sharp eye, and steady breathing. Actually, a glass of beer helps, too.

Prost!

And a great deal of a sense of humor!

Those Bavarian figures are very cool  Ich liebe Bavaria!

Maybe First Legion will produce some small vignettes where the British are stepping over or on dead Frenchmen. I believe Capitolron would love those pieces.

Well, I pre-ordered seven of the new figures today. I am looking forward to this line. How many of you other guys have pre-ordered the new infantry being released on the 20th?
