Scalelink Question? (1 Viewer)

Gazza . . . I have a number of their figures and think that they are very well done. My only criticism is that the bases are a tad small, but perhaps they're intended to be used in dioramas rather than stand-alone. Scale Link artillery and vehicles are a different story . . . unless you're a real dyed in the wool modeler, you'll find them both pricey and tedious (many small parts). However, they are great pieces should you have the skills and patience.

Gazza,

I've assembled and painted a whole lot of these figures recently for collectors worldwide.

Yes, they do have lots of parts that need to be individually added, like packs, rifles, water bottles, gas masks, bayonets and even rifle slings BUT they are well detailed and with some care and skill many different poses and variety can be achieved.

Here is some examples in both matte and gloss finish of Scale Link kits

I was wondering whether anyone had purchased any scalelink products that are 1/32 WW1?

I was interested in thoughts on the quality of the castings and how the match scale wise with W Britains?

They appear to have a large WW1 range

Hi Gazza,
I am a great fan of the scalelink series....but as explained by Obee, either you are an excelled artist or have a friend who is and can help you out;):salute::{sm0}...the outcome is fantastic...the soldiers are great and Obee has shown some, and the same can be said of the vehicles and artillery pieces, as well as compatibility to Britains counter parts.....they on the other hand will look very small if paired with TGM or JJK....
The WW1 British line of offerings are great if you plan an inter war dio given that the Tommy Uniform changed very little they are a great option...see the soldiers riding inside these CJB Trucks they are all scalelink. I will also look for pics in which I matched Britians and scalelink and will post them.
The Legion soldiers are just great, check my public album called French Foreign Legion and you can see more pics. As to vehicles, of the 4 armoured cars that you see, one is Bengurion, one is Rose miniatures and the last two ( open turreted ones ) are scalelink and they go great with the others and the Stadden soldiers that are on the same dio...
Cheers

Guys

Thanks for your responses - all very useful.

Al - Glad that the figures are well done. As they will be in a dio the bases are not a concern and at the moment it is only infantry that I am looking at.

John - Thanks for the pictures. The variety of poses it what interests me most. I am thinking of them for matte but they do look good in gloss.

Artillery Crazy - I previously saw all the FFL that John did for you and thought they looked very good. It really is the scale and whether they can be used with Britains that I am most interested in. If you have any close up pictures of WB and Scalelink I would like to see them.

Thanks again guys

Gazza

Dear Collectors

Scale Link was a model figure (not toy soldier) company owned by the late John Piper, which produced WW I model figures during the 80's. In London's Imperial War Museum there are dioramas made by him. Scale Link was an extensive range of model figures, a few vehicles and a plethora of accessories. Its model figures included, British (and Scottish), Germans, French, Belgian and U.S. Troops (there was even a Belgian dog cart carrying a machine gun). There were separate sets with heads, arms, rifles etc. I have a full catalogue which I will post to the forum to see what I mean. For the time being I am sending a photo of two French officers I panted using artists oils. One of them has a Hornet bear head. I still have unpainted castings, of which I will also send photos. Unfortunately just a small part of this great model figures are now used as toy soldiers.

Best Wishes to all

Hi Thanasis,

Great note on Scale Link ! The only correction I would propose is to change the verb tense from " was " to " is " :salute:::salute:::salute:::salute::They are still trading, selling all the sets you made reference to, plus WW2 vehicles and much more! The link is www.scalelink.co.uk

Cheers

Scale Link did make a few toy soldier sets . . . one was listed on eBay a few months ago. Bid on it, but didn't win.

I spent some time tidying up the loft over the weekend and came across some Scale Link items that I had stowed away.
Whilst on holiday some years ago we were staying reasonably near to Scale link so I went over to visit and came away with these items.

I was collecting the W Britain WW1 "Opening Moves" series at the time and thought these would be a nice addition. Upon returning home I "offered them up" to my W Britain soldiers
and found ( in my opinion) the scale link figures were somewhat smaller. I never have gotten round to assembling and painting them.

Cheers,

Roy

It's lucky I didn't live nearby or I'm afraid my budget would've been sorely tested! Unfortunately, I they have priced themselves out of my range, but I still enjoy viewing them. Scale Link figures are creative and well done . . . the vehicles beautiful but a bit complicated for many of us. I find the weapons, heads and arms very helpful when making conversions. Do yourself a favor; assemble and paint them!!
