Saw this one once again tonight on HBO; like Saving Private Ryan, Goodfellas, The Departed, etc, etc, this movie no matter how many times I've seen it just plain sucks the life out of me everytime I watch it.

And much like the Omaha Beach scene, the restaurant scene and the elevator scene, the second appearance of the little girl in the red coat and the modern day shots at the end will forever be burnt into my memory.

By far the most powerful movie I've ever seen, just so so sad in every way, without a doubt in my top five movies of all time..........

Have to agree. Hard movie to watch, yet necessary. Like HBO's "Conspiracy", the casual brutality is shocking. The scene where the SS commandant arises from bed and starts shooting people from his balcony is absolutely bone-chilling. Fiennes stole the show. -- lancer

George, I don't remember any elevator scene, could you refresh my deteriorated mind?

George is referring to the elevator scene from "The Departed" and the restaurant scene from "Goodfellas". Great, great movies. -- lancer

Lancer,
You mentioned HBO's Conspiracy. Not heard of it down under. Is it a WWII movie ?
Regards
Brett
Brett, "Conspiracy", done by HBO in 2001 is about the Wannsee conference in Jan. 1942 where the Final Solution was cemented. The cast is headed by Ken Branagh as Heydrich and Stanley Tucci as Eichmann. There is an outstanding supporting cast as well. It is a very well done movie that is scary in it's casual brutality exhibited by the characters towards the subject at hand, ie., the Jewish question. Very well acted, written as well as, I believe, very accurate. It is also highly disturbing. I highly recommend it. -- lancer

Casual brutality-can't think of a better expression for what I saw in this movie. A shooter with no principles, no feelings, no nothing... I saw this excellent movie a long time ago, but casual brutality is perhaps what I can remember best:eek:.
Lest we forget...

An absorbing movie. I saw it once. It was all my poor heart good take. Moving and poignant. A must see movie. To quote Yeats "A terrible beauty"

I think George is referring to the Elevator scene at the end of the Departed...won't go into the specifics in case a few forum members are the only ones on earth who haven't seen it, but it's the most memorable scene of the movie I'd say.

It makes the movie..from that moment on, to the end of the movie...what can one say? Michael
