Heres a photo of an attempt i,ve made at building a figure from scratch. The figure is not done yet but I figured i,d post a picture of the figure while its still in the rough stage. I have a wounded/dead austrain figure and a prussain both napoleonics of course!:p The del prado figure is for size ref..
I made them from millputt 2 part putty and tamya 2 part. I used some metal wire inside the prussain figure to give it some support. I know that they are a bit ruff looking but its not as easy to do this as it looks and its my first attempts at doing this.
I also added in a fountain that i,m working on. The figure of mary and baby jesus I found at sears in the x-mas section. I started to build a base for it and want to try and make some kind of a design out of 2 part putty for the base and add some kind of 2 part mix for the water when its done. The rest of the fountain is pink foam.

The process of your sculpting looks interesting. I never tried doing a figure but I think you are making good progress on this figure. Do you plan to make a mold to cast or will these figures be one of a kind? I noticed some professional sculptors use ready made heads and hands on their figures. It seems like a complicated procedure to try.I am sure it will turn out neat. I like the fountain idea also. I did get my Italeri 1/32 scale French artillery and command set yesterday. Have not opened the kits yet. Leadmen

No i,m not going to make a mold, I was just messing around with the 2 part putty. I always wanted to try and make a scratch built figure. I wish I could sculpt like guys like ken olsen and make my own figures but thats not going to happen!:p
I was just bored and gave it a try and posted a couple of pictures thinking some of you might get a good laugh at my feeble attempts:p but, it was fun and a guy can dream can,t he!!!

Hey Tim,

Don't knock your efforts at sculpting. I think you did a heckuva job for a first try. If I were you, I would try to sculpt the accessories like the bedroll, shako, canteen, etc. separately, and then attach them to the figure once you are happy with them. Keep up the good work and I'm sure you'll be getting job offers from Andy.

Hey, thats it all starts out. Next thing you know we'll be ordering the lastest FISHEAD figures and that one figure will be worth $1000.:)

I finished scupting the hands and a musket and got some paint on it but I think i,m going to repaint the face. I don,t like the way it came out.

It reminds me of a 25mm wargame figure. I love the look and the painting and I envy your talent to do both ,really well. And ,yes, if you make them, I would buy them....Michael

I think you hit the nail on the head with the 25mm war game figure, thats what it looks like to me also!!! Unfortunatly thats not what I started out going for, it just happened to turn out that way.:p I think it would be a great sculpt if it was 25mm!

I think that it just a proportion issue with the different body parts. I always did like the quirky type of soldier. Give me something not mass produced and I would rather have that. Make another one in the same pose and play with shaving a little here and adding a little there. But ,do not quit......If I had the eyes to do the detail work, I would try one myself.......Michael
