Twas a mighty project! A 5x10' table of Peking for The Sword And The Flame wargaming.

Although its in 15mm, the techniques are the same as any other scale, including 1:32.

Most of the structures are foamboard, with scribed brickwork covered by lightweight spackle.

Keep in mind these are early pics, the builds have been detailed since.

Besides "Featured" buildings, most have card stock strip framing. The lower rent shops are just cardstock one piece layouts, folded and glued, strengthened by a foam board floor, covered in masking tape and scraps of sand paper to simulate the tar paper and wood construction.

Roofs are corrugated cardboard scrap, and various scrap card.

The last step is to coat the buildings with a mix of 50/50 PVA glue and water, with a drop of flat black acrylic (makes the finish very flat, and provides a dark wash). I mean COAT them! I slop it one with a brush outside, very messy.

When dry, they are super strong for their weight. You can throw them against a wall with no damage.

I'll post a tutorial in the how to about making fast, cheap, detailed buildings this way.

Just noticed, some of the doors (scored paper, LOL) warped! Well, they were just stop gaps until I had a chance to pick up balsa and make proper ones anyway.

Oh and for a practice run, to see if scribing balsa sheet would work for wooden buildings (it works), I cranked out "Terrapin Station" (from the Dead album). Not a fit for Peking, but once I add tamborines and banjos to some little plastic turtle figures I have, it will be.....groovy!
