I broke out some blue wall insulation foam and threw this together today. I just glued a few pieces together and used my fingers to chipping off pieces to make it look like rock, for a quick trial project I think it came out pretty cool. I just wanted to see if I could get a good rock effect with this technique.
Here are a couple of pics!

came out real cool Tim...try using one of those old electric wood burning tools if you have one...Walmart has them for about $8...it gives a great crumbled effect...just touch it to the foam and it creates really nice formations...caution...it smokes a lot...better in the garage with a fan...but really quick...yours look really good though...

Nice job, Tim! When I saw your pictures, before reading the text, I though you had cast these in resin with Woodland Scenics molds or something similiar.

Ah, thanks, Mike! I'd forgotten about the old wood-burning tool. You can use it on styrene, too, like the old pyrogravure tool you read about in the British and French hobby books, though I think it's recommended to use a transformer or a rheostat to control the power and thus, the heat.

Both great tips, thanks, gentlemen, prosit!
