Hi gents,

Firstly let me say that I love my FL 222 and I don't want to start a new "scale war" {sm4}

Today I was looking for a cheap and old model in my collection to repaint it in order to add it to my FL DAK collection. What I found out is that New model army 222 is almost identical to FL in size, obviously not in style. After measure all models I realized that NMA and FL ones are true 1/32 while TCS is 1/30. That confirms me the first impression I had when I first put my hands on my FL 222.

And now the pics...

How did you calculate it at 1/32 and 1/30 respectively? Did you do the calculations to determine the scale? My understanding is the FL is 1/30 and TCS is 1/28.

You are right, most of the FL is 1/30 and TCS is 1/28, but this may be the exception that proves the rule.
Actual vehicle length was 5.85 m (19 ft 4 in) divided by 32 is aprox. 18 cm, which is the length of our FL and NMA models.

I have the NMA Sd.Kfz 231which is what you are comparing; not the Sd.Kfz 222. The NMA Sd.Kfz 231 measures at 1/30 scale as does the First Legion model. The TCS Sd.Kfz 232 is 1/28 scale as as is most TCS armor. The K&C Sd. Kfz 231 is also 1/30 and is identical in size with the FL and NMA models.

Dimensions of the NMA model is Length 196mm, Width 74mm, Height 80mm. All dimensions +/- 1mm. The Sd.Kfz 232 has the Bathtub radio antenna. The Sd.Kfz 231 does not. The supplemental front armor plate on the FL and TCS model was discontinued in June 1942 when thicker armor was incorperated into the hull. The Bathtuub antenna was also replaced with a Star antenna configuration.

So I guess I will have to measure them again {sm2}, thanks for the info and real happy to know they are 1/30 :salute::

I find it difficult to do the calculations as I just have regular rulers and have to rely on publicly available info. Others have specialized equipment (electronic calipers) and detailed schematics they use.

Thanks for the pictures. I have often wondered about adding these to support my FL collection as well. The Sd. Kfz. 23X 8-rad series is definitely in my top 5 AFV list.

Great photos of the Sd. Kfz 232 and 231 models. The NMA model has wheels that roll; which can be both good and bad, as it can roll off a shelf. I agree that the Sd. Kfz 231/232 is one of the top pieces of German armor for a collection; it served in various forms throughout the war.

Back in the day when i was doing WWII, the NMA models were plentiful and cheap and I converted one to the command and control version 234

Great conversion and excellent details. The bike is cool.

Anyway, this NMA 232 has just arrived to Afrika and is getting ready for its section...but there's still some paint work to do before that.

Some progress has been done, but not finished yet. I made some errors... which is good to learn. I wanted to match with FL style as they will be together in the same display, which I know I will never get, but I am happy with it anyway {sm3}

Wow, I am impressed.

The TG Pak 40 will work well with the NMA Sd Kfz 231. I have repainted my NMA in DAK colors with insignia for 21st Panzer. I am working on a DAK diorama with a PAK 40, Sd Kfz 251, 231 and a Panzer III.

Thanks for your comments and likes.
Well, it is about to be finished...and I must say I am really happy with the final look. It looks like a totally different product to the original NMA vehicle.

The FL figures seem to be size compatable with the NMA Sd Kfz 231. A side view with the figures would be good.

Wow, I am impressed. It looks fantastic. When you look closely you can see that detail is not as crisp as the FL vehicle, but the paint job seems spot on.

More pictures with figures would be great.

Some more pictures by request...
Unfortunately the NMA Sturmtiger was true 1/32 as is clearly smaller than the rest of my Tigers.

NMA, K&C and Figarti were transitioning from 1/32 to 1/30 scale in the 2006-2009 time period.
Some armor was 1/32, some was 1/30 and some was even larger. Even today you pay your money and take your chance as to the size of figures and armor. +/- 1 scale unit is not uncommon in armor or +/- 5mm height in figures.
