How does CS compare in size and detail with KC's version. I always thought KC's SDKFZ 222 was undersized. Photo comparisons would be greatly appreciated.

The CS version is noticeably larger. The K&C has a flatter coloured, more weathered look (Afrika Korps) which I prefer, more gear stowed on the vehicle and a completely open turret back.

The CS model has a slightly but noticeably shinier finish (Normandy camo), the turret cover opens to show good detail of the guns, the back of the turret has a half-wall, and the detail of the storage compartments on the vehicle's left side is sharper. (see detailed photos on CS web site).

I could take another photo which shows the back and left sides if you need them.

Thanks Phantom Warrior. Do you like your CS version? It looks great. Does the CS turret turn? I have the CS Tiger & Marder III, which I both like. I was looking for a "to scale" SDFKZ 222.

Yes I like the CS version, although I prefer a more "matte" finish on armour models. I just got the CS Marder and the finish is the same as the 222 and I think the scale is the same. The CS 222 will go with my Normandy pieces.

To compare the CS Marder to the K&C Tigers, look at AB-43 DAK - A very class act here in the CS forum. You will see that the K&C pieces are not all the same scale either.

I have been told the CS pieces range from 1/28 to 1/30 scale with the recent pieces at 1/30 scale while the K&C pieces range from 1/32 to 1/30 scale with the recent pieces at 1/30 scale.

The CS 222 turret turns and the screen top opens and closes (with a little fiddling to get the two halves to fit).

Regarding size...someone may want to check this. I recall there being different sizes of this vehicle in real life

There was the SdKfz. 223 which was the radio car version of the SdKfz. 222 armed with a 7.92 mm MG34 machine gun, additional radio equipment, and a large "bed-frame" antenna over the vehicle making it look bigger - but it was on the same chassis. Also on the same chassis was the early version SdKfz. 221 which mounted only a 7.92 mm MG34 machine gun and had an open top making it look smaller.

There was also the larger 6 and 8 wheel SdKfz. 23x series.

But to the point, the CS and K&C models are of the same vehicle at slightly different scales and sizes.

Phantom Warrior fyi I ordered a SDFKZ 222 from CS. They had two left. Thanks for your help. I'll let you know what I think when I receive it.

Got my SDFKZ 222 today. Love the turret detail. I'm a little disappointed that the wheels don't turn. Overall very nice. Phantom, did yours come with an antenna? I don't have one like in the picture.

The model has just the antennae base on the top edge of the rear of the turret wall.- at least that is what it looks like to me.

I pulled off the existing wheels, mounted a metal rod between them. Then I drilled and putty slots underneath, to slide the rods through..Not a perfect construct, but the wheels turn, enhancing the play value..Michael
