I recieved a package from Europe today that was packaged with something called Instapak Foam Packaging from Sealed Air Products, instead of bubblewrap and packing peanuts. Their website is sealedair.com/instapakprotects.

It's a moldable (flexible) foam material that you can mold around the box that you want to ship. You mold around the toy soldier box you are sending as well as the packaging box that you use.

I thought it was rather ingenious. I have no idea how much it costs but this type of cushioning could be the wave of the future.

I collect a lot of wine and they use this type of product as well

We use it in one of our warehouses.Yes it is expensive and also messy.

And like many of these packaging materials while they claim they are recyclable they often end up in landfills or in the ocean...I don't know why no one has developed yet a fully recyclable or compostable packaging material (like with the corn based biobags or ustensiles).

i prefer recycled materials. I once received a package from the UK in an empty cat food box wrapped
in old newspaper. Came through fine and easy to open. If the shipper knows how to pack and takes the time
to do it properly, no problem. If they don't, buy elsewhere. One word of caution shippers should never, never
rely on the manufacturers interior packaging without checking. If the interior isn't secure, Sealed Air will just
provide a nice costly place to bounce around.

One additional note. I have yet to have a shipper charge me extra when using recycled materials. The ceiling
is the limit for special packing materials. Often double the actual cost to the shipper.
