Hi Guys,

By now most of us who are interested in it have seen "DUNKIRK"... myself included.
I have now seen it a grand total of 3 times!?! The first time on an IMAX screen in Bangkok with my family... The second occasion – with my best mate in Hong Kong, Chris Howse, who some of you may remember form previous “Chicago Shows”.
And the third and final time... also in Hong Kong when I invited all of our K&C staff to see the movie.
At the same time we launched our own ‘mini campaign’ at our shop in Pacific Place and around the Mall where we are located.
We put up several posters linking up the movie to our store and its link with the movie... Here’s what we did.
I am delighted to say this little advertising ‘blitz’ really did result in more sales especially of RAF and German aircraft models and “Fields of Battle” Tommies and French Poilus. What was great that it brought in quite a few “first-time” buyers ...
Now, if we can only make Hollywood make a few more WW2 or indeed any historical movies!!!

All the best and happy viewing,
Andy

Nice work Andy,

maybe the last poster of the troops on the ship heading 'back to Blighty' should read "Take A Day Trip FROM Dunkirk" ???

Lest We Forget,

John

Always a big seller when producing merchandise linked to a successful movie. Glad to hear you are continuing to inject new life into our hobby. Good signs for the future. Robin.

Hi Andy

I'm sure a grey panzer II and a green British 2 pounder will help the sales bubble along for the FOB range.

We're not getting any younger waiting for those releases {eek3}{eek3}

Andy,
That was a nice gesture inviting the K&C staff to view Dunkirk. A film I will be adding to my WWII DVD collection when released !
One question though.......Is the movie theater popcorn in Hong Kong as good as it is here ^&grin

Patton, I am all in with you for that gray early war Panzer II.

Wayne

As a result of the movie, I purchased a few old FOB that I was missing (it was always my favorite K & C range) as well as the Morris and a few extra troops. Perhaps you could roll this out to other countries; I'm sure it would be successful there too. Hopefully there are some new things in the pipeline.

For those who haven't seen it, I recommend the BBC docudrama Dunkirk from 2004. It's very good. It's included in the BBC collection, the BBC History of World War II, which is well worth the money.

Think ‘TO’ is better and grammatically correct, as a Day trip ‘FROM’ Dunkirk, implies they will be only spending a day in the place they are going too and they would be returning to Dunkirk from their day trip.

Gosh I have to get put more...........

Hi Brad,
Many thanks for your appreciative comments...ALL of those 'Dunkirk Collection Combination Sets' are available from K&C Authorised Dealers everywhere...Or at least those who decided to buy them.

When we launched the programme in HK we also made them available to all Dealers everywhere so that they could offer the same great deal to their customers.

Hope this helps...Best wishes, Andy.

Thanks Andy. What I meant was publicizing it in other countries as well. Just as you attracted new collectors in HK, perhaps you would attract new collectors in other countries.

See you in about 6 weeks!

Brad

Well, I guess that depends if he is selling the historical aspect of the event or the movie aspect of the event.....if movie Id tell him to not bother as whoever is watching the movie will never see German soldier much less a panzer. go figure :redface2:

So the poor collector is expected to have "imaginary" foes with "pretend" tanks ??{eek3}. Obviously the British will have invisible artillery against the pretend Panzer IIs.

Reminds me when Andy was pumping out all the Eastern Front Germans with nary a Russian to be seen.

Oh well, fewer figures and less variety means fewer sales.

Not the first time that K&C and the hobby have benefited from a major movie release . . . I seem to recall a huge boost in sales and the launch of the DD series right around the time "Saving Private Ryan" hit the theaters.:salute:: Well done again, Andy!^&cool^&cool

Interesting point 'Patton'...but just not the case...Speaking on K&C's behalf, we have a large and extensive collection of currently available early War 'classic' Wehrmacht infantry, armour and artillery as well as some transport vehicles too....

So, no need to 'pity the poor collector' who only has to oppose an 'imaginary'enemy with 'pretend tanks'...Also as far as British artillery are concerned K&C has the excellent 25 Pounder which I reckon could still put a hole or two through most German armour of that period!

As for your memory of all those Eastern front Germans...I reckon we've more than made up with our Russians by now...and Civilians too...But maybe that does not count..?

And finally...."fewer figures and less variety means fewer sales."....K&C has, in all modesty, designed and produced more early War figures, vehicles and artillery...particularly around our 'Fields of Battle'and 'Battle of Britain' ranges than any other company...And sales are pretty good too...But hey, what do I know..?

Best wishes and happy collecting, Andy.

Andy

Why do I want a 25 pounder when I want a 2 pounder ?

Why are so many collectors regarded as being so "difficult" by K&C in wanting a grey Panzer II ?

PS John Jenkins are being very proactive in producing multiple grey Panzer Is from their Spanish Civil War moulds. No fuss or delay from them.

Happy Collecting (when you can) indeed

.....Maybe start a poll, and add the pieces that you like K&C to make. So as a sampling of the interest that, those pieces will bring, for KC to Gauge.

Thanks for the speedy response Patton...So, it's really all about what you personally want!

A grey Panzer II and an olive drab 2-pounder...Both of which would make fine models I am sure BUT what about ALL the other grey, early war vehicles and figures that K&C has produced over the years and still currently produce...More than all the other companies combined...

I suppose in your little book they don't merit consideration. Or are all of them already in your collection..? Just a thought.

Happy collecting, Andy.

Well, As far as a Gray Panzer II, I have my fingers crossed. Luckily the AK version was done recently so a Gray repaint could be within reach.
The Gray Panzer 38(T) vehicles seemed to be a hit, as they are all gone ! I can easily see the Panzer II doing just as well, if not better.
There is a thing called a production schedule that comes into play. K&C makes a Lot of product. Hopefully one day soon ^&grin

Thanks Wayne,
K&C, like most other companies have something called a 'Production Schedule' that helps us plan and release hundreds of different items on a regular basis throughout the year...

As many of you guys already know it's not like turning a tap on and off and ...hey presto...everything, every collector wants...appears just when they personally want it! That it were so simple eh..?

K&C has plans and schedules for both the 2-Pounder and the Panzer II and Iwhen the time is right I will be happy to share info and photos with all interested parties...

All the best and happy collecting, Andy.

Hey guys, just wanted to add my "two cents" to the discussion, respecting some very strong and passionate feelings regarding our hobby. I think we would all agree that we really like and appreciate new pieces, and Andy and his team really set the benchmark when it comes to the numerous offerings we see each month through dispatches. As a huge fan of the WWII N. Africa theme, I love seeing new AK and EA pieces. I have a list of items that I'd love to see produced. At the same time, I understand that I'm but one collector who K&C attempts to please while many other collectors appreciate other items from different eras and campaigns. The positive is that I have hope that I'll see the items I especially like in the future and can save a little each month when other items are offered.

Congrats to K&C for being able to create a marketing "tie-in" to popular movies like Dunkirk and Fury (to name a few). I see this as a real positive for those of us who enjoy toy soldier collecting because; as mentioned by Andy, some new collectors have come out of the woodwork to purchase items that remind them of these movies. More collectors mean more future items - long live Toy Soldiers!

At the same time, respecting those of you who enjoyed Dunkirk; and I know I'm getting off-topic here, but I was a bit disappointed with the movie. I went with a good buddy of mine who loved the movie but I was hoping to see more than the airplane dogfights. I found the movie a bit slow, didn't really like how it jumped to different stories, and most disappointing, the movie did not have any real visuals of the opposing German forces (save the airplane dogfights). On a positive; however, from a more artistic perspective, the use of real camera shots vs. computer generated imagery as well as the story was good.

Hope to see our strong interest translate to respect and civility in this topic - my two cents.

PS. I'm still waiting for a new Lulubelle to go with my Sgt. Joe Gunn/Humphrey Bogart figure. :salute::
