I have decided to refurbish this early conversion which was made mostly from Historex bits with a resin head and converted baton.

As Senot was a very tall and elegant looking man, I now think that the neck of the figure is too short and the face does not really represent Senot. Furthermore, the hands are also not very well-modelled. It suffers from comparison with another similar Drum Major figure of the 9th Ligne.

So I snipped off the head and hands. The head was repositioned and resculpted. The hands are being resculpted.

this is my figure of Senot by Lead Army

and him leading the band, all cast and painted by me using Prince August moulds.

Hi Vic - following on from Obee's excellent versions - here's one of mine too! Prince August castings by a friend of mine.

Love the detail on your version - but I prefer larger groups - so mine are in Toy Soldier Glossy style. Loved his red boots! jb

Hello Johnnies,

Post away. I love the glossy look of toy soldiers besides the detailed conversions. Besides, the splendour of Napoleonic uniforms can only be captured in mass displays.

I only found two illustrations with red boots :-
Joineau's in Histoire & Collection as per my figure and
Funcken's book which shows ankle high red boots. I note that an old Charles Grant Osprey MAA Foot Grenadiers book makes mention of low gold fringe boots too. But I don't have that book nor the illustration.

I prefer the latter which looks more haute couture...

Also Obee's Lead soldier Senot has a fancy Sapper-like sword-briquet which I will emulate as opposed to a more standard-briquet.

The hands are coming along nicely and I will ring in the above changes as well.

I removed the arms from the figure for ease of handling. It was easy as I had previously attached the arms by wire insertion. When the hands were sculpted, the arms were reattached. Notice that the left arm shoulder socket sticks out a bit more after resculpting. I will have to adjust the hand position slightly.

Some details were further enhanced on this figure.

So I got home last night and found my figure in several pieces. When I asked around, all family members flatly denied that they knew anything about it, fearing my righteous wrath...

Anyway, I did some simple repairs and disassembled the figure from the base. The nose was repaired, and I added hussar braid locks to the figure. Most of the hands are completed and I removed the original fringes on the boots and sculpted new fringes. The last thing to sculpt would be the epaulette fringes when both arms are fully attached. I can't wait to get to repainting this figure.

The left arm was inserted and the gap was filled in. The epaulette fringes were scrapped awayThe right hand was glued back holding the drum stick. I realised that I had Historex hussar braidlocks spares and substituted these for my figure.

An officer sword was added. As per my illustrations, this seem to be the closest match to a black leather sword sabre with decorated gilt details. It would make sense to as the length of the sword when compared to a short briquet would be more befitting for a man as tall as Senot. The sword rings were carefully trimmed and glued to the figure to appear as if the tunic was masking the sword straps. Some putty was added to the turnback to mask the rings.

The epaulette fringes were resculpted. The plume was reattached. The figure was remounted onto its base.

White undercoat was painted over the resculpted areas.

Notice that the left arm elbow has been built up. The turnbacks at the back were realigned. The tunic was painted dark blue/violet and red was added. The embroidery areas have been shaded with dark brown. I removed the right braid lock and moustache to clean up the right cheek and paint it.

The braid was reattached and the moustache resculpted. The face is being painted.

Thanks for that erudite comment... Following a basic painting of the face, the rest of the tunic was shaded in Prussian blue/violet with minor highlights..
