Dear Mr Osen,

There are a number of us, spread all across the world who are literally dying of old age, waiting for a main stream TS company to start producing a "real line" of European Seven Years War figures.

There is a rumor afoot, which is alleged to have been started by you at Chicago, that Britains is seriously considering such a venture.

We would all be very grateful if you could add some substance to this rumor.

Let me explain what I mean by a "real line" of figures:

To me, a real line of figures is one that contains representatives from all branches of the Army concerned: Staff, Infantry, Cavalry, Train, Artillery, in "action poses" first, "camp life" poses second, and "casual" poses a long third.

Please don't start with the Prussian Army! That has been done to death, by everyone

May I suggest the Austrians at Kolin. This was the first defeat of Frederick the Great in 16 years of campaigning. It lead to the creation of the MOMT (Military Order of Maria Terasia) which was still being awarded into the 1930's.

Yours in expectation,

Oberstinhaber

First Legion has done more than Prussians. They have also done Russians although I do understand your point of view.

Even if Britain's came out with a line -- maybe at Chicago -- I think they'd go slowly at first. If such a line is shown in Chicago, I will post photos.

Dear Brad,

I am well aware what FL, and every other maker of TS and castings has done in the 7YW.

NO ONE has really done Austrians, period.

For some inexplicable reason, those that have made a start, Hecker & Goros and Frontline, both chose to do "Hungarian" regiments. [Frontline's range didn't make it to market]

I just love the Jenkins "Roth Wurzberg" Regiment, but one Regiment "does not an Army make"

Puchala and Mini Welt have huge ranges..., ALL Prussians

Rose Miniatures have a small range...all Prussians.

Even Monarch did some 7YW...all Prussians

Tradition has something like 120 Prussians to 8 Austrians

PZ of Poland had a "balanced" range of Prussian and Austrian Cavalry, but the sets are not complete and they are no longer available.

Hinchliffe made one kit of an Austrian Cannon (no crew!)

The other well known maker of TS in HK hasn't touched the 7YW. Maybe if he watched "Barry Lyndon" he too would do some Prussians.

There are many more European kit makers who have done some 7YW, again, predominately Prussians.

With respect, the Russians and the Swedes were but "bit players" in the 7YW, the Austrians were there for the whole slog!

I hope the above helps to clarify my point.

I look forward to Mr Osen's reply.

Happy Collecting,

I don't want to get your hopes up too much but a while back I had a discussion with John Jenkins about the SYW in Europe. I asked him to do more Prussians in attack march and firing positions with "dirt" bases. His Leuthen range had snow bases. I also asked if he would do Austrians as the Roth Wurzburg regiment wore similar uniforms. He seemed very agreeable to do several Austrian regiments but we did not go so far as to discuss artillery and cavalry. If he does produce Austrian infantry to start and it proved popular I am sure he would expand the range.
I think he would do a great job on this era as his Prussians and Roth Wurzburg sculpts demonstrate. The FL Prussian Cuirassiers and Russians go well with JJD. JJD's FIW Bearn Regiment would go well for the French participants in the European theatre of the SYW.
So there is some hope and I would also love an expansive range for the SYW.

Yes, I had forgotten about these guys ....

Maybe John could re-master the finer details on the uniforms, like buttons and pocket/cuffs to make another French Regiment of the European battles of the period?

Leuthen didn't have French combatants, but maybe another battle?
Also the British Infantry that John had made for his North American campaigns and even Culloden could be brought onto that battlefield, with only minor paint changes to other regiments?

Points to ponder ..

John
